Cat food likely source of house fire

Firefighters with the Wapakoneta Fire Department responded just before noon Tuesday to a house fire at 311 Glynwood Road.

Firefighters responded after receiving a 911 call Tuesday at 11:50 a.m. about a house fire at the address of Lynn and Luke Nagel.

The couple has children, but nobody was home at the time.

Fire Capt. Jeff Orphal said Lynn Nagel came home from a church-related event and noticed heavy smoke when she opened the garage. She reported the fire and firefighters and police officers responded to the scene at 11:54 a.m.

Robert Souder, 63

Robert Donald Souder, 63, of Huntsville, passed away Sunday morning, Oct. 7, 2012, at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine.
He was born Feb. 4, 1949, in Bellefontaine, to the late Lillian Maxine (Shultz) and William Emerson Souder. On April 24, 2009, he married Ruth Ann Stevens, who survives.

Budget backlash

Faced with tight budgets for two more years, the Wapakoneta City Recreation director says he and his staff will continue to do the best they can to maintain the parks, but area residents should not look for any major improvements.

Board discusses benefits of levy renewal

WAYNESFIELD — Waynesfield-Goshen Board of Education members discussed renewing the district’s 4.9-mill permanent improvement levy currently in place during its school board meeting Monday.

Board members are currently discussing a 10-year permanent improvement plan, but they would need the levy still in place to execute the plan. The levy, passed in 2008, will expire in 2013.

WACF celebrates scholarships at banquet

Beatrice Caroline Cummings, 95, of Cridersville, formerly of Waynesfield, Wapakoneta, and Winterhaven, Fla., died at 12:45 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at Otterbein-Cridersville.
Services are at 5 p.m. Friday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home in Cridersville.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Paul Raymond Bowers, 43, of Russells Point, passed away Saturday night, Oct. 6, 2012, at his home.
He was born Jan. 31, 1969, in Jeffersonville, Ind., the son of to Mary Jane (McCubbins) and Ralph A. Bowers, who survive in Russells Point.

Edwin Springer, 65

Edwin Eugene Springer, 65, of Wapakoneta, entered eternal life at 2:44 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at this residence. The Lord surely said, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Eddie was born Jan. 10, 1947, in Celina, the son of Martha (Dennings) and Charles Springer, who preceded him in death. On Feb. 4, 1967, he married Shirley (Cook) Springer, who survives in Wapakoneta.
