One vote can make a difference.
In the closest vote Tuesday in Auglaize County, one vote separates incumbent Mayor William Rolston from his opponent, Marilyn Fleck, for Uniopolis mayor. Rolston garnered 44 votes, while Fleck collected 43.
In other contested races in eastern Auglaize County races, incumbent Cridersville Mayor Lorali Myers defeated challenger Tony Zuppardo, 335 to 264.
The two renewal levies in Cridersville also received voter support.
A Wapakoneta man has been arrested in connection with thefts from the Beer & Wine Depot.
Wapakoneta Police Chief Russ Hunlock released information today that Jacob Day, 22, has been charged with two counts of breaking and entering, two counts of theft, and one count possession of criminal tools.
The arrest came as the result of investigations into two breaking and entering reports made at the Beer & Wine Depot, 804 Lima St., on Oct. 26 and Nov. 4.
After finding slim pickings on seating last Friday, fans will have an easier go of it this week.
The Wapakoneta Redskins’ Division II football regional semifinal game at 7:30 Friday night against the Trotwood-Madison Rams will be played at Alexander Field in Piqua, one of the more fan-friendly stadiums in the region.
The stadium, located on the campus of Piqua High School just east of Interstate 75, is a modern facility that seats 8,500 — 4,500 on the home side and 4,000 on the visitor side — according to the school’s Web site.
A Wapakoneta City Council member hopes city administrators heed the signs along most road construction sites — slow down — especially when it comes to grant applications.
Councilor-at-large Wilbur Wells expressed his concerns Monday with the city leaders regarding applying for multiple street and improvement grants in the future prior to learning the city’s financial status to be able to match those grants obligations.
The projects include reconstruction or repaving of East and West Auglaize streets, West Mechanic Street and Short Road, improving Heritage Park and installing sidewalks.
CRIDERSVILLE — During a special meeting of Cridersville Village Council, councilors welcomed a new member to their ranks.
Mayor Lorali Myers gave the oath of office to Paul Lynch, 403 Reichelderfer Road, who will serve as the newest village councilor.
When former Councilor Beverly Wood resigned last month, councilors had approximately 30 days to find a replacement and Lynch was selected after a vetting process.
“We thought he would be a great person for this position,” Myers said. “He will bring in a new perspective and will offer guidance to help run the village.”

Irwin R. “Sparky” Baumer, 88, formerly of East Fourth Street in Minster, and a resident of Otterbein-St. Marys, died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
He was born May 26, 1923, in Minster, to Bernadine (Sextro) and Bernard Baumer. On May 19, 1947, he married Eileen T. Eisert and she died Jan. 9, 2009.
Surviving are a son, Daniel Baumer, of Orlando, Fla.; and two daughters, Linda Baumer, of Minster, and Beth Hinker, of Minster.
Glenn J. Dickerson, 69, of Cridersville, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011 at Lima Memorial Health Systems.
He was born Nov. 30, 1941 in Newark, N.J., to Martha Agnew and Elvest Glen Dickerson. His mother survives in Cridersville and his father preceded him in death Dec. 6, 2010. On Aug. 12, 1977, he married Joyce McGue and she survives in Cridersville.
Mary L. Bean, 84, of Newark, formally of Zanesville, passed away Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, at The Inn at SharonBrooke in Newark.
She was born in Forrest, the daughter of the late Lula Kauble and Clarence Brown.
She is survived by a son, Mark Bean of, Crestview, Fla.; a daughter Carole Kincaid, of Granville; two brothers, David Brown, of Wapakoneta, James C. Brown, of Crestview Fla.; a sister, Jeri Seitz, of Lexington; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; and her husband, Arthur A. Bean Jr.
Two St. Marys men were flown to a Dayton area hospital after a crash early Monday morning at the intersection of Glynwood Road and Ohio 116.
Garet Schmehl, 20, 17906 State Route 66, St. Marys, who was driving, and a passenger, Jeremy Robinson, 20, of 821 Motz St., St. Marys, were both transported from the site of the crash by St. Marys EMS to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, in St. Marys.
