The Auglaize County engineer already received permission last week to go ahead and purchase several new pieces of equipment in 2012.
Auglaize County Engineer Doug Reinhart said per the Ohio Revised Code he must seek authorization from the Auglaize County commissioners for equipment he plans to purchase for the Engineer’s Office through state co-op programs.
The purchases, which are expected to total approximately $300,000, represent 6 to 7 percent of the county’s 2012 Motor Vehicle Gas Tax (MVGT) budget.

COLUMBUS (AP) — Urban Meyer is coming back to coaching and joining beleaguered Ohio State, ESPN reported Monday.
The sports network did not cite a source for its report, but Meyer worked for ESPN the past year.
Meyer won two national championships in six years as the coach at Florida. He left the Gators a year ago, citing health concerns and a desire to spend more time with his family. Now, the 47-year-old Ohioan will be returning to his roots by becoming coach of a Buckeyes team facing NCAA problems.

The Wapakoneta Redskins bounced back from a six-point fourth-quarter deficit and pulled away to a 57-52 win over the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers in the varsity girls basketball season opener for both teams.
Redskins senior Courtney Knippen scored 15 of her team-high 19 points in the second half, including the go-ahead free throws with 3:24 to play.
“We got the ball inside down the stretch a couple times and forced them to foul us,” Wapak varsity coach Rusty Allen said. “We just kept doing the things we needed to do to get a ‘W’ tonight.”
Beulah M. Rupert, 76, of Lima, formerly of Cridersville, died at 10:50 a.m. Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, in her home.
Funeral arrangements are being completed by Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, in Cridersville.

Scrooge and all the characters of Charles Dickens’ holiday story will take the stage for the final show of the season at Wapakoneta Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, in “The Night Before Christmas Carol,” a special take on the classic Christmas story written by Dickens in 1843.

Viola L. Thuman, 98, of Wapakoneta, died at 3:09 p.m. Wed-nesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at Auglaize Acres.
She was born May 11, 1913, in Auglaize County, the daughter of Anna (Leininger) and Jacob H. Zorn, who preceded her in death. On Jan. 26, 1933, she married Lloyd R. Thuman, and he died April 9, 1988.
