Jennifer Helberg, 40

Jennifer Anne (Westbay) Helberg, 40, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster, Ala.
She was born May 21, 1972, the daughter of Rev. Nancy L. and Michael V. and Westbay, who survive in Wapakoneta. On Aug. 29, 2000, she married Joseph Helberg, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Rylie Gwen, at home; a grandfather, Vernon Westbay, of Bellefontaine; a brother, Christopher M. Westbay and family (Melissa, Christopher and Chloe), of Hilliard; and a step-daughter, Christine Helberg, of McClure.

Sharon Kline, 67

Sharon M. Kline, 67, of Wapakoneta, went to be with her Savior at 1:55 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at Wapakoneta Manor, after several years of extended illnesses.
She was born Dec. 7, 1945, in Lima, the daughter of Helen (Myers) and Lawrence Winegardner Klopfenstein. Her mother survives in Wapakoneta, and her father is deceased. On Dec. 10, 1982, she married Robert C. Kline, and he survives.

Myers named to state committee

A local man was recently named to a state committee which will help make recommendations in awarding funds to local and state history projects.

Greg Myers has been named a member to the History Fund Review Committee, as well as part of a panel to help recommend recipients of grant funds for history projects in Ohio.

“I was very honored,” Myers said of the position. “It’s a pleasure to be asked for the first round.”

Deputy retires, reflects on rewards

Reflecting on the rewards a law enforcement officer retiring from the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office took from the job, the deputy says he always wanted to help somebody.

Rusty Krugh started on the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office auxiliary in 1985 and plans to return to serving on the auxiliary upon his retirement.

Tea and gifts store opens in Wapak

Kim Lee, co-owner of LouAnn’s Tea sPot & Gifts, received her inspiration to open the business from a much younger family member.

Lee promised her young niece, Jana Metz, a tea party for her birthday. Lee took her niece and her mother to Eleanor’s Tea Cottage in Troy. The idea for a similar-type business immediately began to form with Lee after the trip.

Lee asked her husband’s aunt, LouAnn Egbert, if she wanted to form a partnership. As a result, the pair opened LuAnn’s on Dec. 4.

Astro Lanes sold

After 35 years heading a local entertainment venue, a Wapakoneta businessman is stepping down and turning over the business to a younger man.

Astro Bowling Lanes owner Denny Borgert is selling his shares of the bowling alley and restaurant to Dave Jeanneret for an undisclosed amount of money. Jeanneret will assume control of the establishment on Jan. 7.

Resignation final

UNIOPOLIS — Uniopolis Mayor Bill Rolston made his resignation official Saturday by signing and giving a letter of resignation to Council President Greg Ritchie.

Rolston confirmed his resignation in a telephone call Sunday, saying he delivered the letter to Ritchie’s home on Saturday. Rolston said Ritchie was not home, but he left the letter with Ritchie’s brother.

Ritchie confirmed receiving the letter in a telephone call on Sunday.

Buckland passes land purchase for sewer plant

BUCKLAND — Buckland Village Council members finalized a deal Saturday to purchase land from Don Stahler Jr. for the proposed new sewer system site.

Councilors decided to have the special meeting so they could finalize the purchase agreement for the 14.8 acres of land before the end of the year. Stahler asked council to complete the deal prior to the end of the year after a contract for the land was signed in September. Stahler asked due to the possibility of capital gains taxes going up in 2013.

William Garrett, 68

William H. Garrett, 68, of Wapakoneta, died at 2:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born Aug. 15, 1944, in Columbus, the son of Dorothy L. (Webb) and Howard R. Garrett, who preceded him in death. On Dec. 31, 1978, he married Lora L. Winget, and she survives in Wapakoneta.
Also surviving are two sons, William II (Rachel) Garrett, and Shaun (Bethany) Garrett; three daughters, Julie Smith, Penny Young, and Angel (Adam) Stahler; 10 grandchildren; and three sisters, Delores Truman, Phyllis Talley, and Faye Bossert.

New troopers take to roads

Five new troopers have taken to Auglaize County roadways to help keep motorists safe.
The new Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) troopers are Nathan R. Wathey, Paige C. Miranda, Brian Mull, Dewaine Anthony Norman, and Corey Resendez.
Wathey, 22, grew up in West Point and is living in Wapakoneta, since his assignment to the OSHP Wapakoneta Post.
The graduate of Beaver Local High School and Kent State University has past restaurant experience and spent time as a junior high wrestling coach.
