Coaches go all out to help team

Everybody knows the story behind the undefeated Wapakoneta Redskins. What people might not know is the men partially responsible for the great 2014 season.

More in particular, three coaches; Mike Voll, Mike Hartz and Cody Cooper. All three are assistant coaches for Redskins’ head varsity football coach Travis Moyer as well as an assistant for him in the days when Moyer was a coach for the Wynford Royals.

Capable offenses with big playmakers set to meet

SIDNEY — Friday’s matchup features some big-play potential by both offenses.

The Wapakoneta Redskins are coming off of a season-high scoring output after its 49-14 win over Talawanda.

The Tippecanoe Red Devils, meanwhile, are averaging just under 40 points per game for the 2014 season.

Couple professes innocence

The lawyer representing Lori Ann Anderson, the Cridersville Elementary School teacher charged with 25 counts including rape and sexual battery, confirmed Wednesday that the alleged victim is her son, and maintains that his client is innocent of all charges.

Students honor veterans

Every year, the Wapakoneta Middle School students and faculty hosts a celebration honoring area veterans for their service and dedication to the United Stated of America. And every year the ceremony is a little bit different but always has the same special feeling to it, as was the case Tuesday as the school hosted its 11th annual Veterans Day Celebration.

Agency seeks website redesign

The state of the Auglaize County Health Department website was a topic of discussion during the Board of Health meeting Tuesday morning.

The board hopes to have the site redesigned and listened to two design proposal presentations during the meeting.

Back on Sunday, Oct. 19, my wife Emmie and I went as usual to 11 a.m. Mass at St. Joe Church. We enjoyed the music before and listened attentively to the scripture readings – but – when it came to the Psalm 19 before the gospel of St. Paul to the Thessalonians, it perked up a long-ago memory of some 50 or more years ago.

Council displeased with AEP plan for powerline project

CRIDERSVILLE — Several councilors voiced their disappointments to the contractor who is upgrading power poles from Wapakoneta to Shawnee along Shawnee Road during Monday’s Cridersville Village Council meeting.

Members of American Electric Power met with the council to ask for a six-month extension on the project while the contractor continues to store its equipment at Delong Pioneer Park.

Pair arrested on sex-related charges

Update: This story was updated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11 after being originally posted Monday afternoon.

A first-grade teacher at Cridersville Elementary School and her ex-husband were arrested Friday on charges including rape, sexual battery and gross sexual imposition.

Lori Anderson, 50, and Charles Wycuff, 53, were being held at the Auglaize County Law Enforcement Center until their arraignment Monday.

Cisco to take reins as solid waste chief

ST. MARYS — Scott Cisco is a hardworking, homegrown St. Marys man who never wants to stop learning, and his life up to now supports that notion.

His career began when he worked livestock for his father, becoming a city worker for 17 years, creating his own lawn care business and now the soon-to-be district coordinator at the Auglaize County Solid Waste plant.

Thrifty Treasures reopens

Thrifty Treasures, on 117 W. Auglaize St., is reopen for business after a five-week hiatus and the reopening happened to come at the perfect time.

“It’s good to be back,” said co-owner Donna Parsons.

The business shut down for roughly five weeks to “revamp” the shop. Parsons said the building that houses the store was in need of a new roof and a new identity.
