W-G clobbered by powerful Patrick Henry squad

WAYNESFIELD — Both Patrick Henry and Waynesfield-Goshen came into Friday's game coming off of reeling losses and looking for a way to bounce back. Both teams were still in the thick of the postseason. It was the Patriots who were more prepared as they improved their playoff stock with a resounding 35-0 victory over the Tigers.

VOLLEYBALL: Heartbreak in Lima, season over

LIMA —  In a game of giant momentum swings, and lengthy service streaks, Wapakoneta found itself on the wrong side of a 3-1 loss in the first round of sectionals.

At Lima Senior High School, Van Wert defeated the Redskins Tuesday night to move to the next round of sectionals.

Wapakoneta’s volleyball season is over.

With the set score tied at one, the Redskins had a demanding lead in set number three, flirting with a double digit lead the entire match.

SOCCER: Season over, a tough pill to swallow

Fans of the Wapakoneta boys soccer team lined the entrance to the field to form a tunnel, cheering on the team as they left the field.

They would have liked to have been celebrating a victory over Elida Monday night.

Instead, they were celebrating the end of a season.

The Redskins fell to the Bulldogs at Ryan Field Monday night. 2-1, in the first game of sectional play.

CROSS COUNTRY: Martin finishes first-team all league

OTTAWA —  Elizabeth Martin qualified for first-team all Western Buckeye League at the league meet Saturday in Ottawa.

Held in Ottawa’s Memorial Park, the Wapakoneta girls finished in 8th place at the meet, and the boys finished in 6th place.

The top 11 finishers in the race earn first-team honors, and Martin said she was happy to reach her season goal, finishing in 10th at 20:58.

CROSS COUNTRY: Middle school sweep

OTTAWA —  The Wapakoneta Junior High Boys’ and Girls’ Cross Country teams both posted strong showings at the 2012 Western Buckeye League Championship meet on Saturday, including first place finishes in both the girls and boys race.

The meet, held at Ottawa-Glandorf Memorial Park, featured all teams from the WBL, and Wapakoneta took home fourth place in both divisions.

Senior night success, Wapakoneta shuts out Van Wert at home

Despite Van Wert finding itself in the red zone four times Friday night, the Wapakoneta Redskins came away with a shutout win on Senior Night.

Sophomore Kodi Morgan, in his second career start, had three touchdowns on the day, two through the air and one on the ground.

The Cougars, not able to put any points on the board, fell victim to the Redskins at Harmon field, 35-0.

W-G loses homecoming match to Fairbanks

WAYNESFIELD — The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers entered Friday night's NWCC showdown with a perfect scenario, a chance to nail down a league title and a likely playoff berth, in front of a large homecoming crowd.

Instead, the Tiger laid an egg of epic proportions, suffering a relentless 42-14 pounding at the hands of the Panthers.

Senior night sweep, volleyball big win over Kenton

“It was senior night, so I’m sure the girls were a little amped,” said varsity head coach Keith Rambin. “If I’m being honest, we played one of our most flawless games of the year.”

And flawless is was.

Wapakoneta volleyball hosted Kenton in the regular season finale, and swept the Wildcats 3-0; 25-13, 25-16, 25-11.

Season finale results in shut out win

It was the last regular season game for the Wapakoneta girls soccer team, and after an up and down season on the pitch, the girls finished with a statement. 

Wapakoneta hosted the Kenton Wildcats Tuesday evening, and sent them home backing, bearing a 4-1 loss to the Redskins.

Varsity head coach Ross Kantner said he was proud of the way the girls finished the season, and hopes to take this momentum into sectional play.
