Krites takes home Bowler of the Year award

The West Ohio High School Bowling Conference held it awards banquet March 10 at Romer’s Catering St. Henry, Ohio.  

The event featured four PBA players, Brian Kretzer, Chris Loschetter, Ronnie Russell and Kyle Bigelow.  

The Wapakoneta Redskins brought home many awards.

Patton family sweeps awards

WAYNESFIELD —  In the Northwest Central Conference girls basketball league, one family should stick out to everyone involved. 

The Patton family. 

Senior point guard Kaylee Patton is every teams’ worst nightmare, and her father Ted Patton, the head coach of the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers, draws up offensive and defensive schemes to cause headaches on the other side of the scorer’s table.

Lady sluggers ‘putting in the work’

With basketball season over, Wapakoneta High School athletes shift toward the spring sport season. While the weather is not complying with the sports schedule, the teams are getting a jump start on the season.

Hidden in the gyms after school every day is the girls softball team. A consistent thump of a softball hitting a glove and the ping of a line drive in the batting cages reverberates through the halls of Wapakoneta High School.

3 Redskins finish in Top 6 at State Wrestling

COLUMBUS — Three Redskin wrestlers ended their high school career on Saturday, all placing in the Top 6 in the State Wrestling Tournament in Columbus, Ohio.

Wapakoneta sent four seniors to the State tournament, and three of them made it to the final day of wrestling. Those three were John “JT” Martin, Holden Hengstler and Nate Valentine. Alec “AJ” Brown also traveled to the tournament, but he was eliminated on Friday.

3 Redskin wrestlers move on to final day of tournament

COLUMBUS — With two days of wrestling completed, three of the four Wapakoneta Redskin wrestlers making the trip to Columbus are preparing for a Saturday morning session at the state tournament.

Wapakoneta sent four wrestlers to the 2013 OHSAA State Wrestling Tournament in Columbus, and three of them are still alive in the consolation bracket.

Redskins go perfect in day 1 of wrestling

The four Wapakoneta Redskins at the State Wrestling Tournament didn’t want to participate in the evening session on Thursday night.

Why?

Well, that was only for the wrestlers who lost their first match.

Alec “AJ” Brown, Holden Hengstler, John “JT” Martin and Nate Valentine went 4-for-4 on the mat Thursday afternoon to move on to the Friday morning session.

Four Redskin wrestlers move on to State Tournament

BOWLING GREEN —  The goal of four Redskin seniors when the high school wrestling season started was for all of them to qualify for the coveted state wrestling tournament. 

The tournament referred to as “State” by most wrestlers is a goal of many but only realized by the top 16 wrestlers in each weight class in the entire state of Ohio.

Redskins send seniors off in victory

The lights went down and the pump-up music started to blare over the speakers. In front of a packed crowd at Wapakoneta High School, the starting lineups were announced. 

For six Redskins seniors, this would be their last game on their home court.

Jake Buzzard, Alex Greve, Brandon Miller. Travis Bertram, Kyle Gibson and Brandon Erb were about to make their last memories on the hardwood in the Redskin gym.
