WAYNESFIELD â The first win of the season for the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers also was the 100th victory for Ted Patton as the varsity coach of the girls basketball team.
The Tigers grabbed an early lead and continued to build on the score as they defeated the Vanlue Wildcats, 66-38.
The night proved to be made more special as Patton reached the milestone with the Tigers in front of a home crowd as Patton celebrated his victory with his team and friends after the game. Patton has more career wins since he also coached the varsity girls basketball team at Perry High School.

COLUMBUS (AP) â Urban Meyer is coming back to coaching and joining beleaguered Ohio State, ESPN reported Monday.
The sports network did not cite a source for its report, but Meyer worked for ESPN the past year.
Meyer won two national championships in six years as the coach at Florida. He left the Gators a year ago, citing health concerns and a desire to spend more time with his family. Now, the 47-year-old Ohioan will be returning to his roots by becoming coach of a Buckeyes team facing NCAA problems.

WAYNESFIELD â Pretty? No.
Gritty? Yes.
The Wapakoneta Redskins bounced back from a six-point fourth-quarter deficit and pulled away to a 57-52 win over the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers in the varsity girls basketball season opener for both teams.
Redskins senior Courtney Knippen scored 15 of her team-high 19 points in the second half, including the go-ahead free throws with 3:24 to play.
âWe got the ball inside down the stretch a couple times and forced them to foul us,â Wapak varsity coach Rusty Allen said. âWe just kept doing the things we needed to do to get a âWâ tonight.â
Area high school basketball starts up tonight when the Wapakoneta Redskins varsity girls team travels to Waynesfield to take on the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers.
Wapak is coming off a disappointing 2010-2011 season marred by numerous injuries. Seniors Tasha Helmstetter, Mallory McDevitt and Morgan Quellhorst all missed time due to injuries last year but are back for the 2011-2012 campaign.
Unfortunately for the Redskins, senior Ashley Knippen is out for the season after suffering a knee injury in the powder-puff football game a few weeks ago.

Mrs. Stoffer â the unsung hero of the Wapakoneta Redskins 2011 football team.
Years ago she told a young, impressionable Doug Frye, âGood, better, best. Never let it rest until your good is better and your better is best.â
Frye never forgot the words of his sixth-grade English teacher and passed them on to his young charges.
âI think our kids have to understand that what we did this year was a step in the right direction,â the Redskins varsity coach said. âBut it wasnât the ultimate accomplishment.â
A step in the right direction indeed.
Two years ago, the Redskins went 1-9.
The party has started in Elida.
It started early in Friday nightâs game.
The Bulldogs are headed to the Division III football state semifinals after dominating the Columbus Eastmoor Academy Warriors 37-10.
It was all about the defense as Elida held Eastmoorâs power rushing attack to just 44 yards and sacked quarterback David valdez nine times.
