ACME: Wapak shuts out St. Marys

June 28, 2011

Dylan Knoch didn’t take over as Wapakoneta’s lead-off hitter until midseason.
Monday night he looked more like a cleanup hitter.
Knoch hit a lead-off home run in the first inning that proved to be the only offense Wapak would need in a 3-0 win over rival St. Marys in an ACME baseball game at Wapakoneta High School.
“It was a curve ball that came down-in and I hit it before it broke over the plate,” Knoch said. “I thought I leaned into it good enough and I just pulled it. It felt real good off the bat.”

ACME: Wapak 'walks' past Van Wert

June 24, 2011

It was a wild night Thursday at Wapakoneta High School.
Well, at least for the Van Wert pitching staff.
Wapakoneta took advantage of 10 walks, four wild pitches and three hit batsmen to cruise to a 15-5 five-inning run rule win in an ACME baseball game.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak for Wapak, which is now 10-2.
“After last night (a 7-2 loss to Celina) I wondered if we’d forgot how to play,” Wapak coach Willie Sammetinger said.
Wapak scored its 15 runs on just eight hits and even left eight men on base for the game.

Ohio State drops review of car purchases

June 22, 2011

COLUMBUS (AP) — Ohio State University on Tuesday dropped its review of car purchases by football players and family members after two separate investigations found dealerships made money on almost all of the sales.
The university made its decision in light of a report by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles and a separate review by the Ohio Independent Automobile Dealers Association.
"We have seen no evidence that would lead us to believe that Ohio State student athletes violated any policies when purchasing used cars," said university spokesman Jim Lynch.

ACME: St. Marys whips Wapak

June 18, 2011

ST. MARYS — It was a painful night Friday for the Wapakoneta ACME baseball team.
The insult? A 10-0 five-inning run rule loss to rival St. Marys at K.C. Geiger Park in St. Marys.
The injuries? Those belong to second baseman Alex Koch and shortstop Josh Apple.
A fired-up St. Marys squad placed the first blemish on Wapak’s formerly perfect 9-0 record with a dominating performance, pounding out 10 hits and taking advantage of every Wapak miscue for the win.
