Myers, Snider to join Ashland tennis

Two of the girls who guided the Wapakoneta Redskins tennis program through its best stretch in program history are moving on to the next level of competition.

Chelsea Myers and Kaitlin Snider have each signed National Letters of Intent to play women’s tennis for the Eagles of Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio.

The duo guided Wapakoneta to back-to-back Western Buckeye League titles as well as consecutive undefeated regular seasons the past two years.

SIDNEY — Two lost fumbles by the Wapakoneta Redskins doomed their chance of unseating the Trotwood-Madison Rams.

Losing the opportunity to score, the Redskins defense could not make enough stops to survive the Rams in the Division III, Region 10 championship, as Trotwood-Madison prevailed in a 34-28 four overtime thriller Friday in high school football action at Sidney Memorial Stadium.

Redskins receive 10 all-district selections; W-G gets 3

Wapakoneta Redskins senior Thomas Schoenlein was named a Co-Lineman of the Year in Division III, while 10 total players from Wapakoneta were awarded all-district nods Thursday as the Associated Press released the All-Northwest District selections.

Redskins trying to start new history vs. Trotwood-Madison

Wapakoneta Redskins’ first-year head coach Travis Moyer can’t talk about the prior meeting between Wapakoneta and Trotwood-Madison because he wasn’t there.

That meeting was a 27-6 Redskins loss to the Trotwood-Madison Rams during the second round of the 2011 high school football playoffs.

The Redskins can even their playoff mark against T-M with a win this Friday, when the two schools will meet in the Division III, Region 10 final at Sidney Memorial Stadium.

Wapakoneta rolls past Tippecanoe into regional final

SIDNEY — The Wapakoneta Redskins did not finish the first half how they had hoped, but they redeemed themselves with a strong performance in the second half against the Tippecanoe Red Devils, putting Wapakoneta in a regional championship game for the first time in school history.

Facing a 7-7 tie at halftime, the unbeaten Redskins outscored Tippecanoe 21-0 in the second half in a runaway 28-7 victory Friday in a Division III, Region 10 semifinal at Sidney Memorial Stadium, on a frigid night when temperatures fell below 30 degrees.

Capable offenses with big playmakers set to meet

SIDNEY — Friday’s matchup features some big-play potential by both offenses.

The Wapakoneta Redskins are coming off of a season-high scoring output after its 49-14 win over Talawanda.

The Tippecanoe Red Devils, meanwhile, are averaging just under 40 points per game for the 2014 season.

Wapakoneta stops Braves, Thomas for playoff win

Maurice Thomas routinely showed his big-play ability Friday, but the Wapakoneta Redskins were ultimately able to keep the Talawanda Braves’ star tailback in check routinely.

Elsewhere, the Redskins made big plays in all areas of the game and held a huge advantage when it came to doing the little things right during a commanding 49-14 win Friday over Talawanda in a high school football Division III, Region 10 quarterfinal at Harmon Field in Wapakoneta, playing a first-round playoff game at home for the second straight year.

Local boy meets QB at Princeton with same name

Rarely, if ever, does someone get the chance to meet someone else who shares the exact same name. Yet, for two individuals to both have the same, yet uncommon, first and last name, and not knowing if they are related, is quite rare and astonishing.

Yet, it happened recently for a local boy — Quinn Epperly — and the unusual coincidence sparked an arranged meeting at a football game in New Jersey last month.

Wapakoneta goes 10-0, wins league

What a treat for the Redskins on a wicked night of weather on Halloween, as Wapakoneta captured the Western Buckeye League title outright and finished the regular season unbeaten with a 10-0 record Friday. Wapakoneta last completed a 10-0 season in 1986.

The Redskins also unofficially secured the first seed in Division III, Region 10, with their 31-0 win Friday over the Shawnee Indians in varsity football action at Harmon Field in Wapakoneta.
