Wapakoneta outlasts Shawnee in 9 innings

April 12, 2014

The only walk of the game was basically intentional. It loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, put the Wapakoneta Redskins’ best hitter Renee Lovett on base and brought a struggling Redskins sophomore Sierra Sammons to the plate.

Sammons, who was 0 for 4 until that point, sliced a grounder to shortstop which was bobbled, allowing Bridgitte Weaks to score from third, giving Wapakoneta a 2-1 win Friday in nine innings over the Shawnee Indians in a Western Buckeye League varsity softball contest.

The game was supposed to be held at Shawnee High School but was moved due to wet field conditions.

Wapakoneta starting pitcher Kodi Morgan dueled with Shawnee starting pitcher Zach Peake but, in the end, Morgan picked up the win en route to a complete game.

Early runs lead Wapakoneta to win over New Bremen

April 11, 2014

The Wapakoneta Redskins jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two innings and never looked back in a 10-4 win Thursday over the New Bremen Cardinals.

The Redskins scored three runs in the first inning and five in the second to help cushion themselves in a matchup of two young rosters in non-league varsity softball action at Wapakoneta High School.

Wapak (5-0) was helped by two New Bremen errors in the first inning and had three hits of its own, including a two-run double by Alexis Schwartz, who now has an extra-base hit in every game this season.

Schwartz's 1st-inning slam guides Wapak past LCC

April 10, 2014

LIMA — A first-inning grand slam by Alexis Schwartz was enough cushion for the rest of the game, as the Wapakoneta Redskins senior blasted a pitch over the wall in right field to give her team a 4-0 lead with zero outs in the frame.

The four runs proved to be enough as the visiting Redskins posted a 5-3 win Wednesday over the Lima Central Catholic Thunderbirds in a non-league varsity softball game at Faurot Park in Lima.

‘Skins double up Jays

The Wapakoneta Redskins created runs with the help of five doubles out of their eight hits in Monday’s game.

Although the offense produced fewer hits as the game wore on, they were solid enough in other areas to hold off the St. John’s Blue Jays in the season opener for both teams.

The Redskins emerged with a 6-3 non-league victory Monday over St. John’s in varsity baseball action at Wapakoneta High School.

Wapakoneta's Warner plays in all-star game

March 25, 2014

ELIDA — One task which had always come relatively easy to Sara Warner that she found to be challenging Monday was scoring points.

The Wapakoneta High School senior was a dependable points scorer on a team full of many of them.
Warner averaged 15 points per game during her senior season for the Redskins but went scoreless Monday.

Although she wanted to score at least once in Monday’s game, she realized why it was tough to do so.
