Redskins rally in 6th inning to beat Fostoria

The Wapakoneta Redskins finally put one solid inning together in their final at-bat to notch a come-from-behind win Thursday in their first tournament game of the 2014 season.

Although they committed five defensive errors, the Redskins held the visiting Fostoria Redmen scoreless the final four innings before tallying three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-3 lead.

Covington tops Botkins in 12 innings

BOTKINS — The Botkins Trojans fell short in a marathon tournament game Monday.

The Trojans were defeated 13-11 by the Covington Buccaneers in a Division IV high school baseball sectional semifinal at Botkins Community Park.

Knotted at 9-9 after seven innings, both teams scored twice in the eighth and went scoreless for three straight innings.

Covington took the lead for good in the top of the 12th inning.

St. Marys edges Wapakoneta in 9 innings

In a game full of missed opportunities to convert runs, the St. Marys Roughriders finally benefitted from one.

The visiting Roughriders broke their own stretch of seven straight scoreless innings with a go-ahead run in the ninth to give them a 2-1 win in nine innings Tuesday over their rival Wapakoneta Redskins in varsity baseball action at Wapakoneta High School.

Wapak and St. Marys were competing for a share of the Western Buckeye League title, as each entered the game Tuesday with a 6-2 league record.

Redskins rally to beat Commodores

Zach Golliday led the charge on the mound as the Wapakoneta Redskins rallied to defeat the Perry Commodores, 10-4, in a non-league varsity baseball contest at Wapakoneta High School.

Wapak trailed 4-1 after Perry’s at-bat in the third inning, during which Golliday entered the game. Nate Schroer started on the mound for the Redskins, but the Commodores were able to figure him out quickly.

Golliday and the Redskins held Perry scoreless the rest of the game while the offense steadied itself.

Wapakoneta crushes Waynesfield-Goshen in 5

The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers were apparently surprised to be leading after the first inning Thursday but before they knew it, they were quickly out of the game.

The Tigers owned a 2-0 lead after their at-bat in the first inning and had that lead cut in half when the Wapakoneta Redskins scored once in their at-bat.

Wapakoneta, however, poured on 10 runs in the second inning to take a commanding lead, cruising to a 13-2 win by run-rule in five innings over W-G in non-league varsity softball contest at Wapakoneta High School.

Wapak tops Kenton; showdown with Defiance today

The Wapakoneta Redskins held on for a 5-4 win Monday against the Kenton Wildcats in a Western Buckeye League varsity baseball game at Wapakoneta High School.

Since a loss in the league opener to Van Wert, the Redskins have won five straight WBL games and are currently tied for second place.

Wapakoneta’s win Monday set up a showdown scheduled for this afternoon between Wapakoneta (12-4, 5-1) and unbeaten Defiance, which is alone in first place in the WBL standings.

Wapak's Gonterman plays in state's top all-star game

DAYTON — Kyle Gonterman had a good experience this past week in preparation for football at the college level this coming fall.

The Wapakoneta High School senior took part in the Ohio North-South Classic festivities, which concluded Saturday with an exhibition all-star game hosted by the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association at Welcome Stadium in Dayton.

Gonterman played at center for the South team in the Division I-III game.

Wapakoneta finishes 2nd in Redskin Relays

Hilary Bourne, Emily Klopfenstein and Megan Watt combined to set a new meet record Friday, as the Wapakoneta Redskins competed in the Redskin Relays in high school girls track and field action hosted by Wapakoneta High School at Harmon Field.

All three girls eclipsed 100 feet, as Bourne (113-08) placed second, Klopfenstein (107-9) was fifth and Watt (100-4) finished seventh.

Wapakoneta wins 4th straight WBL game

The Wapakoneta Redskins received production from every level of the batting lineup and were afforded a strong outing on the mound by junior Kodi Morgan to continue their winning ways in Western Buckeye League action, in which Wapak has now won four games in a row.

The Redskins posted a 5-3 win against the Celina Bulldogs in a WBL varsity baseball contest Thursday at Wapakoneta High School.

Wapak opened the scoring with one run in the second inning thanks to the bottom of its lineup.

Botkins rallies past Houston for league win

April 22, 2014

BOTKINS — Ending a streak of 11 straight scoreless innings, the Botkins Trojans scored twice in the fourth inning to cut into their 3-0 deficit and scored two more in the fifth to take the lead for good at 4-3.

The Trojans added three insurance runs in their final at-bat to land a 7-3 comeback win Monday over the Houston Wildcats in a Shelby County Athletic League contest at Botkins Community Park.
