Sudden Success

October 17, 2014

Worried he may have held the ball too long, Alex Lause was glad he did.

Lause tracked down possession of the ball in the corner, escaped the two initial defenders, worked around a third and afforded himself a workable angle to boot a left-footed shot into the net, giving the Wapakoneta Redskins a 3-2 sudden victory overtime win Thursday over the Elida Bulldogs at Ryan Field in Wapakoneta.

October 14, 2014

CELINA — A case of the Mondays.

This year Wapakoneta went 7-1-1 in WBL play, finishing as runner-up in the league for the second straight season. St. Marys, meanwhile, was 7-0-2 again in 2014 and gave the Redskins their only league loss this season — on a Monday.

The Tigers (2-5, 1-2 NWCC) ruined the Golden Gophers’ (2-5, 0-3) Homecoming festivities by thanks to some big plays leading to 19 unanswered points and forcing four turnovers all en route to a 35-12 victory.

Wapakoneta stays alive in league race

October 10, 2014

Luckily for the Wapakoneta Redskins, they had room to give on the scoreboard Thursday in their game against the Shawnee Indians, because they surely did not have a tie to spare in the Western Buckeye League standings.

Wapakoneta, on its Senior Night, survived the final two minutes of the game after a late goal by the Indians reduced their deficit to one, 2-1, as a tie would have given the St. Marys Roughriders their second straight outright league title.
