Redskins win sectional; Sutton breaks another record

February 10, 2014

Charlie Sutton set another school record Saturday as part of a sectional championship win for the Wapakoneta Redskins.

Sutton swam the 100-yard freestyle race in 49.12 seconds Saturday, breaking the previous mark of 49.26 set by Ryan Kremer.

The record was the third different school record Sutton has broken this season, previously setting a new mark in the 200 and 500 freestyle races. He also broke the Western Buckeye League meet record in the 100 free on Jan. 29.

Wapakoneta girls cruise to sectional title

February 10, 2014

The Wapakoneta Redskins knew they had a good shot at being sectional champion as a team Saturday, and they did more than enough to see that through.

Wapakoneta finished first among 12 Division II schools at a girls Northwest District sectional meet Saturday at the Lima YMCA. Lima Senior, a Division I school, also competed there.

“With Celina and Ottawa-Glandorf at the Ayersville sectional, we felt we had a good chance at winning if we performed they way we should,” Wapak coach Mark Law said.

Wapakoneta wins share of conference title

Two strong first games by brothers Chandler Kaeck and Nate Kaeck helped all but seal a conference championship for the Wapakoneta Redskins.

The duo each rolled a 258 to help Wapakoneta in their first game against the Russia Raiders on Saturday and provided a cushion for their team in their pursuit of the West Ohio High School Bowling Conference title.

“That was really big,” Wapakoneta varsity coach Jim Kaeck said of the pair of 258s. “That pretty much took care of it.”

Botkins ultimately swung the scoreboard by 27 points to sustain a 22-point victory, 53-31, in a varsity boys basketball contest on Senior Night at Waynesfield-Goshen High School.
