Trojans blank Rockets, advance to sectional final

The Botkins Trojans defeated the Anna Rockets, 2-0, for the second time in 11 days Monday in a Division IV Southwest District girls soccer sectional semifinal.

Botkins recorded its first win over Anna in school history, 3-0, in a match Oct. 3.

The two teams tied, 1-1, in their first meeting this season Sept. 19.

After an 0-6-3 start to the season, the Trojans have gone undefeated in their last eight matches as of Monday.

Sierra Butcher tallied Botkins’ first goal Monday.

Wapakoneta's Zofkie wins league title

Allie Zofkie won her first Western Buckeye League championship Saturday representing Wapakoneta High School, as the Redskins’ freshman was the top finisher Saturday at the WBL girls cross country meet at the former St. Marys Memorial High School.

Zokfie won Saturday’s race with a time of 19 minutes, 38.85 minutes. She finished 23 seconds ahead of the runner-up, St. Marys senior Kristen Dammeyer.

The Redskins placed sixth out of 10 schools Saturday with a team point total of 171.

Botkins' Floras place 3rd at league meet

The Floras were each third in their respective races Saturday as the Botkins Trojans competed in the Shelby County Athletic League cross country championships at Anna Elementary School in Anna.
Cameron Flora and the Trojans’ boys teams took third in the meet.

Flora, a sophomore, ran Saturday’s course in a time of 16 minutes, 54.3 seconds, among 86 runners.

Also a sophomore, Chloe Flora and the Botkins’ girls team placed fourth out of five teams with 96 points.

OTTAWA — When the Wapakoneta Redskins were cruising on offense, Keaton Metz was involved Friday, as the junior not only returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown but also accounted for a passing, rushing and receiving touchdown.

Metz and the Redskins powered past a 45-13 win Friday over the Ottawa-Glandorf Titans in a Western Buckeye League varsity football contest at Titan Stadium in Ottawa.

W-G wins 2nd straight, rolls Ridgemont

WAYNESFIELD — Putting as many as eight and nine people in the box, daring the Ridgemont Golden Gophers to throw the ball, the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers dominated on the defensive side of the ball.

The Waynesfield-Goshen offense needed the defensive dominance until nearly the end of the first half when they started clicking and then the defense even joined in the scoring as Tigers defeated Ridgemont 34-8 in front of home crowd on Senior Night in Northwest Central Conference action.

Wapak ends historic season, done at districts

The Wapakoneta Redskins ended their historic season Thursday on the first day of districts.

Needing to reach the semifinals to participate Saturday, the Redskins managed one win Thursday in the Division I Northwest District girls tennis tournament at Bowling Green State University.

"This was all new to them, but they now know what it's going to take," Wapak varsity coach Mike Klock said. "Playing at districts is another notch up. They're playing very good competition and at sectionals, too.

LIMA — Having played defense for so long, after allowing a tying goal with 4:14 left in the second half, the Wapakoneta Redskins pulled out a surprise and managed to retake the lead just 35 seconds later.

On the pitch for just 2 minutes after leaving with an injury, Wapak freshman Alex Lause broke loose behind Shawnee’s defense, was one on one in front of the Indians’ goalkeeper, fired a shot toward the top of the net and scored with 3:39 left in the second half.

Wapak takes region’s top spot in computer ratings

The Wapakoneta Redskins took the top spot in their region Tuesday as the Ohio High School Athletic Association released the latest edition of the weekly football computer ratings.

Wapakoneta (5-1) was second last week in Division III, Region 10, and swapped places with Mount Orab Western Brown (6-0) after its 52-7 win over Defiance last Friday.

The top eight teams in each region for Divisions II through VII will qualify for the playoffs, while the top 16 teams in Division I will make the playoffs.

Redskins end historic season at disricts

The Wapakoneta Redskins saw their season end Tuesday during their first ever district tournament appearance, as they placed fifth out of six teams at the Division I Northwest District girls golf tournament at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green.

The top two teams from Tuesday’s district tournament advanced to the state championships.
