February 20th
SPENCERVILLE — If you were to ask any coach when he wants a player’s best performance of the season, the answer would always be the same.
Tournament time.
For sophomore guard Megan Watt, Tuesday night was her time.
The Wapakoneta Redskins easily defeated cross-county rivals St. Marys in the first round of Sectional play at Spencerville High School. 53-31.
February 18th
BOWLING GREEN — Nine Redskin swimmers have made their mark in the Wapakoneta history books and are heading to the State Meet in Canton, Ohio.
The Girls 200 Free Relay, the Girls 400 Free Relay, the Boys 200 Free Relay and an individual from the Girls 100 and 50 Free, have all qualified for spots at the State Meet.
February 15th
The Shawnee Indians haven't won a game in the Western Buckeye League this season as the Wapakoneta Redskins visited their home floor.
Wapakoneta is looking to secure a fourth place finish in the WBL, while Shawnee is still looking for a WBL win.
Dialing long-distance, shooting from downtown, raining 3s.
The Wapakoneta Redskins used the trifecta to create some early distance from the Shawnee Indians, but they could not shake their Western Buckeye League neighbor because they, too, were hitting bombs.
Both teams combined for 19 3-pointers in the contest with Wapak hitting 10, led by junior guard Sara Warner with four but nearly the whole team got involved. Shawnee snapped the twine nine times with two girls each hitting three.
February 12th
LIMA — As the Wapakoneta swim teams took the pool for the Sectional Meet Saturday, most everyone on the team had it as a goal to swim well.
And they did.
An impressive 15 swimmers will compete at the district swim meet in Bowling Green Friday and Saturday.
Eight swimmers from the girls team will travel to Bowling Green State University to compete for a chance to swim at the State Meet in Columbus, Ohio.
Seven swimmers from the boys team are scheduled to swim this weekend, as well.
The Wapakoneta Redskin boys basketball team drew the No. 3 seed in their Sectional Tournament Sunday afternoon, and they now await a match-up against the No. 4 seed Celina Bulldogs in the first round.
The top-seed Bath Wildcats chose the top half of the bracket, and the next four seeds chose the bottom half of the bracket until it was full to avoid playing the Wildcats for as long as possible.
February 11th
BOTKINS — The Botkins boys basketball team was shooting on all cylinders Saturday night, picking up a convincing victory over the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers.
Four different Trojans hit 3-pointers in the victory, for a team total of nine 3-pointers.
W-G could not keep up with that offensive productivity, and was crushed by Botkins, 65-46.
February 8th
The Wapakoneta Redskins came out of the gate sluggish against the hosting Van Wert Cougars, but used a solid second half to pick up another Western Buckeye League victory.
The Wapakoneta girls basketball team seemed to have everything under control in the beginning of Thursday night’s game.
The Redskins were up 17-6 at the end of the first quarter before the Cougars made a charge and made a ballgame out of the matchup.
A last-second 3-pointer from Van Wert’s Cheyenne Handy hit front iron and bounced harmlessly to the court as the buzzer sounded. Wapakoneta held on for the narrow victory, 51-50.
February 7th
Austin Krites has been bowling since as long as he can remember.
His first leagues started when he was just four years old at Astro Lanes in Wapakoneta.
Now, at age 16, Krites leads the West Ohio High School Bowling Conference in pin average, and his Wapakoneta Redskins squad has a firm grasp on second place in the league.
