April 26th
The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity softball team hosted the Fort Loramie Redskins Thursday afternoon, in a game that turned out to be a defensive struggle featuring solid pitchers from both sides.
Wapakoneta defeated the Fort Loramie Redskins, 2-0, behind the arms of Carli Sammons and Renee Lovett.
“Carli started us off, she did a nice job with location,” Wapakoneta varsity coach Bill Sammons said. “Hit her spots well. Kept them to zero runs. “
April 25th
The quest for perfection continues for the Wapakoneta Redskins junior varsity squad.
After two victories last week, the Redskins improved to 9-0 with wins against the Lima Central Catholic Thunderbirds and the Sidney Yellow Jackets.
Junior pitcher Jake Bruns shut down the T-birds with three innings of relief, striking out three and keeping unblemished mark in hits and walks as the Redskins came back for a 9-6 win.
April 24th
CELINA — Both juniors on the Wapakoneta varsity baseball squad hit home runs in their 10-0 rout of the Celina Bulldogs Tuesday.
Chandler Kaeck had a grand slam in the third inning and Chace Culver had a solo shot in the sixth, providing more than enough offense for the Redskins.
Culver helped himself out Tuesday with his homerun, as he was the pitcher for Wapakoneta. He pitched 6.0 innings of 2-hit baseball.
April 23rd
Monday’s make-up game between the Wapakoneta Redskins and the Elida Bulldogs was a victory on the scoreboard for the Redskins as well as a victory in varsity coach Bill Sammons’ book.
“I really think that we actually won this game,” Sammons said after the 11-1, six-inning game. “We took a step today, even though the first inning was a little frustrating. We really took a step in the right direction in this game.”
April 19th
Despite an early 2-run hole, the Wapakoneta Redskins charged back and shut the door defensively on the Versailles Tigers.
On a cloudy and windy day in Wapakoneta, pitching prevailed again for the Redskins as they beat the Tigers, 8-2.
Marshall Gerlach pitched 7 innings for the Redskins, giving up five hits and two walks. He gave up two runs in the first inning, neither of which were earned runs.
April 18th
ELIDA — Defense wins games.
That’s true for the most part, but a team needs a little bit of offense to break the tie every once in a while.
The visiting Wapakoneta Redskins found themselves tied in a scoreless tie with the Elida Bulldogs in the top of the 11th inning.
April 16th
After a rocky start to the season, the Wapakoneta varsity baseball team is doing what they can to get back on track.
Back-to-back shutouts isn’t a bad place to start.
Traveling to Kenton Monday afternoon for a makeup of Friday’s game, the Wapakoneta Redskins run-ruled the Kenton Wildcats, 11-0.
The plays which have been vexing the Wapakoneta Redskins in the past four games instead bewitched the New Bremen Cardinals on Saturday at Redskin Field.
The Redskins captured an 8-0 win against the Cardinals behind a stellar pitching performance from senior Brandon Miller to end a four-game losing streak, while the Cardinals wasted a gutsy performance on the mound by pitcher Trevor Kitzmiller to fall to 2-7 on the season.
April 10th
Holding a 3-0 lead into the sixth inning, it seemed the Wapakoneta varsity baseball team had figured out its recent defensive problems, and was on its way to victory.
When it rains, it pours.
The Shawnee bats came alive in that sixth inning and they scored 11 runs in the frame, all but sealing the victory, 11-3.
April 9th
Despite jumping out to a 4-0 lead inning, the Wapakoneta Redskins varsity baseball team fell to the Minster Wildcats Monday afternoon.
Minster pitcher Devon Poeppelman gave up four runs in the first inning, but then completely shut down the Redskin offense with his off-speed pitches, as the Wildcats battled back to win, 8-4.
