Redskins beat Celina by 8 strokes, 189-197

Wapakoneta senior Shelby Kohler shot a season-low for nine holes Monday in her team’s 189-197 win Monday against the Celina Bulldogs at Fox’s Den Golf Course in Celina.

Kohler parred the last five holes en route to a 39, earning match medalist honors.

“Shelby had a great night,” Wapak varsity coach Dawn West said Monday. “She was in control of her swing the entire round even on the holes she made bogey. She has really been a great leader for our team this season.”

Allen East tops Waynesfield-Goshen in 4 games

The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers dropped a non-league match, 3-1, to the Allen East Mustangs on Monday in varsity volleyball action.

W-G won the first game but then lost the next three.

Monday’s scores were 22-25, 25-10, 25-22 and 25-22.

The loss put W-G’s overall record at 2-10.

The Tigers will continue their season Thursday with a Northwest Central Conference match against the Riverside Pirates.

W-G is 2-1 in the NWCC.

Wapakoneta freshman Allie Zofkie placed fifth overall out of 177 runners Saturday in the Galion Cross Country Festival at Amann’s Reservoir Park.

Her finish scored four points for Wapak, as the Redskins took 20th place out 27 teams in the Division I meet, totaling 570 points.

Rounding out of the scoring for Wapak were Nicole King (132nd; 23:13.8), Morgan Miller (145th; 24:10.3), Summer Griner (148th; 24:18.2) and Megan Watt (149th; 24:25.7).

Floras shine for Botkins at Eaton meet

Botkins’ Chloe Flora ran the sixth-fastest time in school history Saturday at the Eaton Invitational.

Her time of 19 minutes, 47 seconds placed her fourth overall in the race, as the Trojans finished 10th out of 12 teams.

Bethany Christman (41st; 22:57), Corinne Woodruff (70th; 24:16), Mackenzie Brown (72nd; 24:21) and Tayler Weatherhead (73rd; 24:21) rounded out Botkins’ scoring five.

Lakota Running Hawk (78th; 24:41) and Abbey Johnson (84th; 25:07) also ran for Botkins.

Trojans end losing streak against Falcons

The Botkins Trojans ended a six-match losing streak Saturday with a 3-0 win over the Riverside Pirates in a non-league varsity volleyball match in Botkins.

The match scores Saturday were 25-12, 25-17 and 25-20.

Allison Guckes led Botkins with 23 digs.

Blake Maurer notched 13 assists.

Denise Schwartz posted 10 kills, while Sami Vehorn added nine.

The win put Botkins’ record at 3-8 overall.

The Trojans will host the Houston Wildcats on Tuesday in a Shelby County Athletic League match.

Tigers run at Ottawa-Glandorf Invitational

The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers ran in Ottawa on Saturday at the Blue/Gold Invitational hosted by Ottawa-Glandorf.

W-G took 18th place out of 21 teams in the boys Gold division, comprised of small schools.

In 78th place overall, Stephen Hayes led W-G with a time of 19 minutes, 43.7 seconds.

Levi Miller (88th; 19:52.2) and Matt Motter (92nd; 19:58) were closely behind for the Tigers.

Jordan McKinney (102nd; 20:11.6) and Alyn Begley (108th; 20:20.3) finished W-G’s scoring five.

W-G drops non-league match to Fairlawn, 3-0

The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers dropped a 3-0 decision Saturday to the Fairlawn Jets in a non-league varsity volleyball match.

Fairlawn won by scores of 25-12, 25-11 and 25-18.

The loss moved W-G to 2-9 overall this season.

The Tigers will play a road match tonight against the Allen East Mustangs in non-league action.

Redskins rebound by dominating the 'Dawgs, 42-0

A hot week of practice for the Wapakoneta Redskins became even more heated in the aftermath of last Friday’s loss to Kenton. The result this time was a sound 42-0 victory Friday over the Elida Bulldogs in a Western Buckeye League varsity football contest at Harmon Field.

Wapak lost 52-16 last Friday to Kenton in its WBL opener.

“I’m just so proud of our kids this week,” Wapak varsity coach Doug Frye said. “We upped the heat in the kitchen, and the kids responded.

Mechanicsburg dismantles W-G, 54-16

WAYNESFIELD — Once again, it appeared the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers may have been ready to get the season started.

However, what happened after the first nine minutes of game time was a complete massacre, as Mechanicsburg ran away with the game early.

The Indians put the game away after a rough start, rolling up a 54-2 lead before the Tigers finally reached paydirt for the first time this season, doing so twice in the second quarter.

Wapak clinches share of WBL regular season title

The Wapakoneta Redskins clinched a share of the regular season Western Buckeye League title Thursday.
Wapak, with a 5-0 win Thursday over the St. Marys Roughriders, improved to 8-0 in the WBL through eight matches with one to play.

The Redskins will face Van Wert on Monday in its league finale.

A win by Wapak against Van Wert would clinch the league’s regular season title outright and would give Wapak 10 points for first place entering the WBL tournament.
