W-G tops Ridgemont in conference play

The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers topped the Ridgemont Golden Gophers, 183-203, in a Northwest Central Conference varsity boys golf match Thursday at Veterans Memorial Park Golf Club in Kenton.

Trey Crumrine and Lake Turner each posted 44 on Thursday to lead W-G.

Gabe Wilcox (47) and Brandon Turner (48) finished the Tigers’ scoring. Caden Spencer (57) and Drew Lament (60) also played for W-G.

Tigers beat Riverside, win 2nd straight match

The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers grabbed their second straight win in match play Thursday with a 233-254 victory over the Riverside Pirates at Prairie View Golf Club in Waynesfield.

With the win, W-G moved to 2-0 overall this season.

The Tigers were led by match medalist Chelsea Spencer’s 51, a season-best.

Kennedy Rumer had a 58, Kiersten Wilcox notched a season-best 60 and Elva Anne Shephard tallied a 64 for W-G.

Destiny Jones was the low scorer for Riverside at 57.

Wapak runner-up at county tournament; Wayman 3rd

On the same course for the second straight day, the Wapakoneta Redskins were the runner-up Wednesday with a team score of 335 in the Auglaize County Invitational, a six-team tournament played at Arrowhead Golf Course in Minster.

Wapak played at Arrowhead on Tuesday in the Cardinal Invitational and scored 340 as a team, while Redskins junior Drew Wayman was Tuesday’s tournament medalist.

Wayman tied for third overall Wednesday with an 18-hole round of 77.

Botkins scores win over Fort Recovery

The Botkins Trojans scored a 171-189 win over the Fort Recovery Indians on Wednesday in a non-league varsity boys golf match at Mercer County Elks Country Club in Celina.

The Trojans were led by Seth Hanna’s nine-hole score of 41. Nick Okuley and Roger Miller followed with a 42 each. Spencer Stutsman was Botkins’ fourth scorer at 46.

Fort Recovery was led by Kent Retz and Stewy Alig at 46 each. Derek Backs shot a 47, and Chase Bruns carded a 50.

The Trojans are now 3-0 in match play this season.

Wayman earns medalist honors at Cardinal Inv.

MINSTER — Wapakoneta junior Drew Wayman shot a 1-under-par 71 to earn the honor of tournament medalist Tuesday at the Cardinal Invitational at Arrowhead Golf Club in Minster.

Wayman and the Redskins finished fourth out of 14 teams Tuesday, as the team shot 340. Wapak also finished fourth last season at the Cardinal Invitational.

Wayman had scores of 36 on the front nine and 35 on the back nine.

Wapakoneta blanks Bellefontaine in opener

The Wapakoneta Redskins blanked the Bellefontaine Chieftains, 5-0, in their first match of the season Tuesday in varsity girls tennis play. Bellefontaine brought only five players to the match at the Wapakoneta Rotary Club courts at Wapakoneta High School.

The Redskins lost only one game Tuesday.

“It was a good start,” Wapak varsity coach Mike Klock said. “They’re a weak team. I expect our competition to be much stiffer as the season goes on.”

W-G's Rumer records ace; Tigers 8th in Bellefontaine

Waynesfield-Goshen junior Kennedy Rumer aced the ninth hole Tuesday at Tree Links Golf Course in Bellefontaine during the Benjamin Logan Lady Raider Invitational. Rumer used her 6-iron on the par-3 for the hole-in-one.

The W-G Tigers placed eighth and last overall in the tournament with a score of 509.

Chelsea Spencer led W-G with an 18-hole score of 105. Rumer followed at 125. Danielle Heintz posted a 139, and Elva Anne Shephard tallied 140.

Wapak opens season 6th at Piqua tourney

The Wapakoneta Redskins opened their 2013 season with a sixth-place finish out of 18 teams Monday in the Homan Invitational at Piqua Country Club in Piqua.

The Redskins totaled 349 strokes as a team.

Drew Wayman led Wapak with an 80 for 18 holes.

“Drew played steady throughout the round, as he recorded 10 pars and eight bogeys,” Wapak varsity coach Kenny Wayman said. “He hit the ball well, but the greens were the culprit for a really good round.”

WAYNESFIELD — The Wapakoneta Redskins won their first match of the season Monday as they handled the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers, 188-238, in non-league varsity girls golf action at Prairie View Golf Club in Waynesfield.

Monday’s result evened both teams’ 2013 overall records at 1-1.

The Redskins’ top four scorers each bested the Tigers’ top scorer.

New Bremen defeats W-G

The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers were defeated by the New Bremen Cardinals, 171-186, on Monday in a non-league varsity boys golf match at Prairie View Golf Club in Waynesfield.

The loss was W-G’s first of the season, moving the Tigers to 1-1 overall.

Trey Crumrine led W-G with a 41. Also for the Tigers, Lake Turner and Gabe Wilcox each had a 47, while Drew Lament notched a 51.

New Bremen’s Alex Britton was the match medalist with a nine-hole score of 38.
