CELINA — The St. Marys Roughriders overcame a 2-0 deficit about as quickly as a team can, as they finally broke through on the scoreboard midway through the second half and scored four times in fewer than 9 minutes.
The furious rally gave the Roughriders a 4-2 win Thursday over the Wapakoneta Redskins in a Division II Northwest District girls soccer sectional championship at Celina High School, in a contest between the two rival schools and Western Buckeye League foes.
LIMA — The Wapakoneta Redskins improved from their first match this season against the Celina Bulldogs but their effort Thursday was still not enough to gain a win.
Celina beat Wapak in three games Thursday in a Division II Northwest District volleyball sectional semifinal at Lima Senior High School in Lima.
Celina soundly defeated Wapak in three games during the two teams’ Western Buckeye League match Sept. 19, with scores of 25-10, 25-15 and 25-11.
Celina was the co-champion of the WBL this season.
The Botkins Trojans held off the Casstown Miami East Vikings as long as they could Thursday but a Vikings’ goal with three minutes left in the second overtime ended the match, giving Miami East a 1-0 victory in a Division IV Southwest District girls soccer sectional championship in Casstown.
The two teams played scoreless through 80 regulation minutes and 15 minutes in the first overtime before the Vikings’ winning goal surfaced from a rebound off of a direct kick.

The Springfield Catholic Central Irish were too much for the Botkins Trojans in their 3-0 win Thursday in a Division IV Southwest District volleyball sectional championship, played at Tippecanoe High School in Tipp City.
The Irish had winning scores of 25-12, 25-9 and 25-13.
Catholic Central (23-1) was Division IV’s eighth-ranked team in the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association poll released Monday.
