The Wapakoneta Redskins didn’t need a lot of offense for the win.
And that’s exactly what they got, not a lot of offense.
Despite collecting just three hits, Wapak pulled out a 4-1 win over the Defiance Bulldogs in a Western Buckeye League varsity softball game Friday at Wapakoneta High School.
“The big thing was our defense really came alive tonight,” Wapak varsity coach Bill Sammons said. “I really feel like we turned a corner a little bit.”
The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity boys tennis team continued its winning ways, rolling to a 5-0 win over the Defiance Bulldogs in a Western Buckeye League match Friday at Wapakoneta High School.
With the win, Wapak improved to 8-3 overall and 5-2 in the WBL. Defiance fell to 2-8 and 1-5.
In first singles, senior Nic Oen bested junior Michael Sanchez 6-4, 6-0.
Senior Joey Jose won in second singles, topping junior Austin Fishpaw 6-0, 6-3.
Senior Andy Faller beat sophomore Nolan Parsons 6-1, 6-1 in third singles.
After Wednesday’s 9-6 win over the Sidney Yellow Jackets, the Wapakoneta Redskins are owners of a two-game win streak, one straight in the Western Buckeye League.
Next up for the Redskins? How about the Defiance Bulldogs, owners of a 54-game WBL win streak.
Defiance (11-1 overall, 3-0 WBL) has not lost a WBL varsity baseball game since April 28, 2006. Wapak will try to put an end to that streak at 5 p.m. Friday at Defiance High School.
KENTON — The Wapakoneta Redskins had little trouble with the Kenton Wildcats, rolling to a 5-0 sweep of a Western Buckeye League varsity boys tennis match Wednesday at Kenton.
Wapak won all five matches in two sets each, winning five of the sets 6-0 and five of them 6-1.
Senior Nic Oen dropped Kenton junior Graham Reese 6-1, 6-1 in first singles.
Redskins senior Joey Jose blanked senior Jaden Perkins 6-0, 6-0 in second singles.
In third singles, Wapak senior Andy Faller topped freshman Jake Abbott 6-1, 6-0.
BATH TOWNSHIP — It’s the little things that add up.
An error here. A walk there.
They caught up with the Wapakoneta Redskins on Friday night.
The Redskins didn’t make a lot of mistakes. But the Bath Wildcats pounced on the ones they did for a 5-4 win in a Western Buckeye League varsity baseball game at Bath High School.
Bath took advantage of a lead-off walk in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring two runs to rally from a 4-3 deficit for the win.
The Bath Wildkittens scored early, and they scored often.
Bath quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and continued to pound the ball throughout the game in a 10-0, run rule-shortened win over the Wapakoneta Redskins in a Western Buckeye League varsity softball game Friday at Wapakoneta High School.

With the win, Wapak is now 4-4 overall and 3-1 in WBL play. Bath is 0-5 and 0-4.
Wapak’s Nic Oen posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Jason Lauf in first singles.
In second singles it was Joey Jose cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Nick Cunningham.
Andy Faller completed the singles sweep, besting Garrett Renner 6-2, 6-1 in third singles.
COLUMBUS (AP) — The Ohio High School Athletic Association will be adding a seventh tournament division in football beginning in 2013, Commissioner Daniel B. Ross has announced. The addition of a seventh division was approved by the OHSAA’s Board of Directors by a 6 to 3 vote during its regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday.
LIMA — The Wapakoneta Redskins upped their record to 4-2 on the season with a 4-1 win over the Lima Senior Spartans in a non-league varsity boys tennis match Thursday in Lima.
Wapak players blanked their opponents in three of the four winning matches.
Redskins senior Nic Oen rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Dylan Goodwin in first singles.
In second singles, senior Joey Jose posted a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Bryan Simpson.
WAYNESFIELD — The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers posted their second varsity softball win of the week with a 4-1 win over the Sidney Lehman Catholic Cavaliers on Thursday at Waynesfield-Goshen High School.
W-G trounced the Upper Scioto Valley Rams 35-7 on Monday.
Against Lehman, the Tigers broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the home half of the fourth inning to claim the win.
Seniors Alyssa Dyer, Logan Badertscher and Jessica Reimesch all reached and scored in the inning.
