Gerlach blanks Cavs

June 28, 2012

The pitching just doesn’t seem to run out for the Wapakoneta Redskins ACME team.

This time, it was starting pitcher Marshall Gerlach’s turn to baffle opposing hitters.

Gerlach limited a solid Coldwater Cavaliers ACME team to three hits and never allowed a runner to reach third base as the Redskins nailed down a 5-0 win Wednesday.

“He continually worked ahead in the count tonight,” Wapakoneta ACME head coach Willie Sammetinger said. “He is tough to score on when he is getting ahead in the count.”

LIMA — In a tight pitcher’s dual, the Wapakoneta Redskins ACME team managed to bunch enough of its few hits together as they took a 3-1 win home from Lima Central Catholic High School on Tuesday.

The Lima Central Catholic ACME team quickly jumped out to take a 1-0 lead off of Wapakoneta starting pitcher Brandon Miller, but Miller settled down the rest of the way. He scattered four hits over four innings.

BASEBALL: Wapak ACME edges St. Marys

What a difference a week makes.

Thursday at Wapakoneta High School, St. Marys jumped all over Wapak starting pitcher Andrew Hines for four first-inning runs.

But Hines settled down and Wapakoneta chipped away at the St. Marys lead to pull out a 5-4 win.

BASEBALL: Wapak ACME rallies past Minster

June 13, 2012

For four innings, Wapakoneta’s big bats were quiet.

Too quiet.

In the fifth and sixth innings, they started to make some noise.

A lot of noise.

Brandon Miller and Chandler Kaeck, Wapak’s fourth and fifth hitters, combined to drive in six runs in two innings as Wapak rallied from behind for an 8-4 win over Minster in a key ACME baseball game Tuesday at Wapakoneta High School.

Miller and Kaeck were a combined 0-for-4 through four innings as Minster jumped out to a 4-1 lead.

BASEBALL: Wapak ACME rips St. Marys

June 8, 2012

ST. MARYS — Aside from an early season wooden bat experiment, Wapakoneta has continued its success into the summer.

“They tried them in batting practice in the spring and they thought they might want to try them in the game,” Wapakoneta ACME coach Willie Sammetinger said, with a chuckle. “Well, they broke $200 worth of bats last night in Elida. They just fractured them. So we’re slowly but surely starting to go back to metal.”

The Redskins are showing theirs early in the ACME season.
