COLUMBUS — It wasn’t supposed to happen this year.
But that didn’t make it any easier when it didn’t.
Conventional wisdom from the beginning was that the junior-laden Wapakoneta Redskins were getting primed at a run for the state baseball title in 2013.
Then 2012 happened.
Defending Division II state champions Columbus St. Francis DeSales handed the Redskins a 3-2 defeat and claimed a repeat state championship Saturday at Huntington Park in Columbus.

COLUMBUS — The conditions weren’t pretty. And the height wasn’t what she wanted. But Wapakoneta’s Megan Hayzlett had to be pleased with the result.
The Redskins junior earned a spot on the medal stand, finishing fourth in the high jump during Day 1 of the Division II state track and field meet Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Hayzlett cleared 5-foot-2, three inches below her seed height and personal record of 5-5.
