BASEBALL: Redskins roll past Elida

April 11, 2012

A northwest wind dropping temperatures to near freezing failed to stop the Wapakoneta Redskins hot bats in a Western Buckeye League game against the Elida Bulldogs.

Junior shortstop Josh Apple paced the Redskins smoking three hits and collecting two RBIs, while junior starting pitcher Johnny Crawford allowed only one frozen rope hit in five innings of a 9-1 victory.

With the win, the Redskins improve to 10-1 overall and 3-0 in the WBL, while Elida drops to 3-9 on the season and 1-2 in league play.

The words “blue moon” come to mind.

But Wapakoneta Redskins seniors Courtney and Ashley Knippen did just that Tuesday night, capping a seven-run second inning as Wapak rolled to a 16-7 win over the Elida Bulldogs at Dorothy Edwards Field.
