After surrendering a sizable first period lead shrink to three points midway through the third period, the Wapakoneta Redskins went on a 14-2 run to finish the period and end any hopes the Indian Lake Lakers had of upsetting the home team on Saturday.
After dispatching of the Piqua Indians in the season opener, Redskins varsity coach Matt Bradley gave his squad credit for being gritty in capturing a 59-37 victory against Indian Lake.
VAN WERT — The Wapakoneta boys swimming team proved to be the area’s best at the Van Wert Relays, as the Redskins took home first place.
The girls team, not that far off the boys mark, finished third behind Versailles and Bryan.
Combined the Redskins finished second, 14 points behind Versailles.
The meet featured 14 relays, Wapakoneta won one of them and finished second in five other events.
BELLEFONTAINE — The Botkins boys basketball team got the season off to a great start by winning the Ben Logan Tip-Off Classic 64-51 over Mechanicsburg.
The Trojans got down early 12-4, which included a 10-2 run by the Indians.
BOTKINS — The Botkins Lady Trojans got an easy victory Saturday, 48-17 over Riverside. The Trojans lead from the start, jumping out to an early 10-0 lead with 2:53 left in the opening quarter.
Botkins started the game with a 13-0 run, before the Pirates scored their first basket with 1:30 left in the first quarter. The Lady Trojans took an 18-2 lead at the end of first quarter, aided by 10, first quarter points from Claire McCullough.
