MINSTER — The Wapakoneta boys and girls bowling teams cruised to victory Saturday in Minster.
The boys team played a head to head match against New Bremen, and took care of business, 2951-2287.
In the singles games, Austin Krites dominated the lanes, bowling 216 and 234 in the two games, for a total of 450 pins.
Despite a 34-point performance from senior guard Kaylee Patton, the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers fell to the Bellefontaine Chieftains in the championship game of the Wapak Tip-Off Tournament, 69-62.
The Bellefontaine Chieftains jumped out to an early first quarter lead, and maintained it throughout the game.
Bellefontaine’s Brenda Johnson scored 20 points for the Chieftains, leading them to victory in the game, and victory in the Tip-Off Tournament.
BOTKINS — The Botkins Lady Trojans opened their season Saturday night with a 68-39 victory over the Parkway Panthers.
The Lady Trojans came out on fire to sprint to an 8-0 lead in the first two minutes of play. They continued to build their lead on the shoulders of senior guard Casie Bergman who hit four 3-pointers in the first eight minutes of the game to give Botkins a 23-7 lead after the first quarter.
In the consolation game of the Tip-Off Tournament at Wapakoneta High School, the Redskins found victory over Troy High school, 41-38.
Scoring was streaky to say the least in this contest. These two teams were both coming off tough losses from the night before, and Wapakoneta varsity coach Rusty Allen said there was a combination of fatigue and caution that led to the low scoring affair.

This basketball season for the Wapakoneta girls varsity squad began a little differently this year, hosting a Tip-Off Tournament.
But the result Friday night was less than desired for a host school at their own event.

We all love our Redskins. And every so often, a hometown favorite or a high school standout makes his way to the next level athletically. While he may not being wearing the Red and White of Wapakoneta, one collegiate football player has made his way onto the starting squad of a playoff team.
And he credits a lot of his success to his hometown in Auglaize county.
Some of you may remember him, but if not, meet Cale Tabler, now a sophomore at the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The varsity boys bowling team kicked off its season with a convincing win over Russia Saturday, 2519-1834.
This season’s boys squad features many returning varsity players from last year, and varsity coach Jim Kaeck said the team should be able to build on last year’s state qualifying squad.
Saturday’s match was a dissappointment in one regard for Kaeck, in that the lane conditions were poor, and the balls were hooking way too much.
The Maroon boys CYO team took to the court Sunday evening and defeated NorthStar 59-47 in their first basketball game of the season.
Leading scorer for the Maroon squad was Austin Scott, who netted 15 points on the evening.
The match was fairly even in the first quarter, with both teams knotted at 15 a piece, but the second quarter belonged to the Maroon team.
Allowing just 6 points in the second quarter to the NorthStar squad, the defense was stifling.
