LIMA - Wapakâs varsity girls tennis team swept the Lima Senior Spartans 5-0 at Lima Senior.
Annie Harrod blanked Lima Seniorâs Alexis Smith 6-0, 6-0 in first singles.
The Spartans were forced to forfeit in second and third singles.
In first doubles, the Redskinsâ Katie Martin and Kirsten Wellons shut out Erica Schlesselman and Brooklyn Mason 6-0, 6-0.
Wapakâs Chloe Veit and Carly Buzzard routed Ryan Crockett and Amelia Upthegrove 6-0, 6-2 in second doubles.
The win lifts Wapak to 3-0 on the young season.
The Redskins next match is Monday afternoon at 4:30 at WBL foe Elida.
CELINA â The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity boys golf team finished 17th at the 24-team Celina Invitational on Friday at Foxâs Den in Celina.
The inexperienced Wapak squad turned in a team score of 344 but was just a few strokes from finishing in the top half of the pack.
SIDNEY â The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity girls tennis team picked up its second win in as many matches with a 4-1 win over the Sidney Yellow Jackets on Thursday in Sidney.
In first singles, Wapak senior Makenzie Klock rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Kassi Edwards.
Redskins senior Shelby Gillespie topped Monica Kislig 7-6, 6-3 in second singles.
Junior Annie Harrod rounded out a sweep of the singles matches for Wapak with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Katie Salyers.
The Redskins also won in first doubles as junior Katie Martin and freshman Kirsten Wellons pulled out a 6-4, 6-2 win.
WAYNESFIELD â The New Knoxville Rangers boys golf team defeated the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers, 185-200, in a dual match opening win for the Rangers on Thursday at Prairie View Golf Course in Waynesfield.
W-G senior Justus Ball was the match medalist with a 41.
Garret Hopenstein shot a 46 for the Tigers. Eric Shaner recorded a 55 and Ryan Agnew turned in a 58 to round out the scoring for the all-senior Tigers squad.
Tyler Shreve led the way for New Knoxville with a 42.
Justin Slaven shot a 45, David Boesche added a 48 and Michael Porter carded a 50 for the winning Rangers.
The Wapakoneta Redskins junior varsity boys golf team traveled to Arrowhead for a JV quad match with Minster, New Bremen and Marion Local.
"For being the first match of the season for the JV's, we played well," Wapak coach Ken Wayman said. "I thought we really did a nice job competing with the other teams."
The Redskins shot a team total of 192 and placed 3rd out of four teams. New Bremen won with a 178, followed by Minster 185, Wapak 192, and Marion Local 219.
The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity girls tennis team kicked off its season with a win, sweeping the Bellefontaine Chieftains 5-0 on Tuesday at the Harmon Park courts.
Senior Makenzie Klock rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Cheryl Corbett in first singles.
In second singles, senior Shelby Gillespie held off Hannah Vance 7-6 in the second set after posting a 6-1 win in the first.
Junior Annie Harrod bested Hannah Weimer in third singles by a score of 6-0, 6-3.
In first doubles, junior Katie Martin and freshman Kirsten Wellons topped Madeline Heuser and Michelle Frantz 6-4, 6-2.
MINSTER â The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity boys golf team place sixth in the 14-team Cardinal Invitational on Tuesday morning at Arrowhead Golf Course in Minster.
Wapak turned in a team score of 336. Versailles won the event with a 320 followed by Fremont St. Josephâs 321.
The Redskins were just six strokes behind third-place Minsterâs 330.
The Botkins Trojans fired a 342 to finish eighth.
âWe played much better today both physically and mentally,â Wapak coach Ken Wayman said. âIt seemed we played much smarter golf throughout the round.â
LIMA â The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers varsity boys golf team picked up its first win of the season by defeating Northwest Central Conference foe Temple Christian on Tuesday at Hidden Creek golf course in Lima.
W-G compiled a team score of 217 to best the Pioneers, who turned in a 230.
Justus Ball and Garrett Hauenstein were co-medalists to lead the Tigers, each carding a 48.
Eric Shaner was just one stroke back at 49 strokes.
Ryan Agnew rounded out the W-G scoring with a 72.
Israel Whitman led Temple with a 49.
The Tigers are now 1-2 on the season.
The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity girls golf team defeated the Indian Lake Lakers 213-222 in its first dual match of the season Monday at Wapakoneta Country Club.
Shelby Kohler led the Redskins with a round of 45. Indian Lakeâs Morgan Barnett turned in a 42 to edge Kohler for medalist honors.
âShelby hit the ball well, she just had a little trouble with her shots around the green,â Wapak coach Dawn West said. âShe is making some changes with her pitching and chipping so it wonât be long before she is more comfortable around the greens. I was very pleased with her round.â
LIMA â The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity boys golf team finished a disappointing fifth in the Rob Contini Memorial tournament Monday at Hawthorne Hills golf course in Lima.
Lima Central Catholic won the event with a team score of 306. Wapak turned in a 361.
âWe didnât play very well. We had a few mental errors that cost us a few strokes,â Wapak coach Ken Wayman said.
Bobby Crow led the Redskins with a team-best 86. Josh Apple shot an 89. Aaron Johnson recorded a 92. Drew Wayman turned in a 94. And Marshall Gerlach carded a 99.
