The Defiance Bulldogs defeated the Wapakoneta Redskins 200-219 in a key Western Buckeye League girls golf match Monday at the Wapakoneta Country Club.
Both teams struggled. But Defiance struggled less as it pulled out the win.
“Everybody seemed kind of sluggish,” Wapak coach Dawn West said. “We were just one step behind all day.”
Shelby Kohler carded a 46 to lead the Redskins and earn medalist honors.
“Shelby played really well,” West said. “She had the opportunity to shoot even lower.”
Courtney Knippen shot a 56, followed by Bryly Beaman with a 57 and Hannah smith with a 60.
The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity boys golf team was unable to take advantage of its home course advantage as it suffered a two-stroke loss to the Elida Bulldogs in a Western Buckeye League dual match Monday at Wapakoneta Country Club.
Elida defeated the Redskins 175-177.
“When you play at home, you have to win at home to have a chance at the WBL title,” Wapak coach Ken Wayman said. “I tell the kids every stroke counts in a golf match. We can never assume we are out of a match. We have to always grind it out and play smart golf.
