RACING: Kahne to race at Waynesfield

June 20, 2011

WAYNESFIELD — An Ohio Sprint Speedweek show is always a big draw.
For Waynesfield Raceway Park, tonight’s race is going to be a little bit bigger.
NASCAR Sprint Cup star Kasey Kahne will take on the best of the All-Star Circuit of Champions during the Speedweek race — stop No. 3 in the eight-race week — tonight at Waynesfield.
Kahne is no stranger to Sprint car racing, having cut his teeth on the dirt tracks of his home state of Washington before competing in the national USAC and World of Outlaws series.

ACME: St. Marys whips Wapak

June 18, 2011

ST. MARYS — It was a painful night Friday for the Wapakoneta ACME baseball team.
The insult? A 10-0 five-inning run rule loss to rival St. Marys at K.C. Geiger Park in St. Marys.
The injuries? Those belong to second baseman Alex Koch and shortstop Josh Apple.
A fired-up St. Marys squad placed the first blemish on Wapak’s formerly perfect 9-0 record with a dominating performance, pounding out 10 hits and taking advantage of every Wapak miscue for the win.

ACME: Miller enters record books in Wapak win

June 17, 2011

NEW KNOXVILLE — Wapakoneta ACME coach Willie Sammetinger shook his head and smiled.
“I’ve never seen anybody have three,” he said.
“That” would be three triples in a game.
Wapak first baseman Brandon Miller did just that in a 14-6 win Thursday at New Knoxville, setting a new Wapak ACME record.
Wapak remained perfect on the season at 9-0.
How rare is three triples in a game? Consider this: in Major League history it has only happened 48 times. Compare that to hitting for the cycle, which has happened 291 times.

ACME: Apple blanks St. Henry

June 14, 2011

ST. HENRY — Wapakoneta’s Josh Apple threw just one pitch during the entire varsity baseball season.
That pitch resulted in a long fly ball during a 19-3 loss to the Minster Wildcats in mid-April.
Monday, Apple threw 79 pitches in an ACME game at St. Henry.
Those pitches resulted in a complete-game, two-hit, shutout win over St. Henry.
Apple allowed a pair of doubles, one in the second and one in the seventh, and didn’t allow a runner past second base. He struck out four and walked just two.
