BALTIMORE (AP) — Derrek Lee led off the bottom of the 12th inning with a home run to give the Baltimore Orioles a 5-4 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night.
Lee sent a 1-2 pitch from Jose Arredondo (0-3) into the seats in left field to end the marathon. It was Lee’s fifth home run, the first since May 8.
Cincinnati missed a chance to take the lead in the top of the 12th when Joey Votto was thrown out at the plate trying to score from first on a two-out double by Jay Bruce.
It was a wild night Thursday at Wapakoneta High School.
Well, at least for the Van Wert pitching staff.
Wapakoneta took advantage of 10 walks, four wild pitches and three hit batsmen to cruise to a 15-5 five-inning run rule win in an ACME baseball game.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak for Wapak, which is now 10-2.
“After last night (a 7-2 loss to Celina) I wondered if we’d forgot how to play,” Wapak coach Willie Sammetinger said.
Wapak scored its 15 runs on just eight hits and even left eight men on base for the game.
