BOTKINS â€” New Bremen sophomore Julie Brownâ€™s jumper with five seconds left allowed the Cardinals to defeat the Botkins Trojans 50-48 on Monday night.
It was a tight battle throughout the game with the lead changing hands often, but the clean jumper off a turnover by Brown gave New Bremen its first road win of the season.
â€śWe needed this win,â€ť Cardinals varsity coach Randy Eckert said. â€śIt was one of those games that they got a lead and we got a lead and it went back and forth and we were just fortunate to win it at the end.â€ť
NAPOLEON â€” The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity girls swimming team finished eighth and the boys team 10th at the Napoleon Wildcat Invitational on Saturday.
In all, 16 teams competed in the meet.
The Wapak girls team scored 126 points to take eighth. Bath was seventh with 151 points. Napoleon won the event with 496 points.
Wapakâ€™s boys team scored 92 points, just five points behind ninth-place Napoleon 2. Napoleon 1 took first with 550 points.
The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity boys bowling team took over the top spot in the West Ohio High School Bowling Conference standings after winning on Saturday at its home alley at Astro Lanes.
Wapak pushed its record to 4-0 with a 3,021-2,318 win over the Lima Central Catholic Thunderbirds.
The Redskins are one of four unbeaten teams left in the WOHSBC, along with the Versailles Tigers, Coldwater Cavaliers and Ottawa-Glandorf Titans. But Wapak leads the way in total pins through the four matches.
