LaVern A. Menker, 81

LaVern A. Menker, 81, of 813 Briarcliff Dr., Saint Marys, and formerly of Springfield, died at 3:20 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 15, 2014, at the Elmwood Assisted Living Center in New Bremen. He was born June 7, 1933, in Maria Stein, the son of Alvin and Anna (Heitbrink) Menker. He married Jane Tumbush on Sept. 17, 1955, in Saint Marys, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 27, 2001.

Norma S. Borjas, 71

September 16, 2014

Norma S. Borjas, 71, formerly of Cridersville, died peacefully in her residence in Maineville, Ohio on Monday, Sept. 15, 2014. She was born June 10, 1943, in Kenton, to Morris and Freda (nee Gibson) Switzer. Both preceded her in death. On April 24, 1962, she was united in marriage to Frank Borjas, who survives in Maineville.

Myron H. Opperman, 89

Myron H. Opperman, 89, of 505 West South St., New Knoxville, Ohio, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at OSU Medical Center in Columbus.

He was born Feb. 13, 1925, in Shelby County, Ohio, the son of Herman and Anna (Nolte) Opperman. He married Henrietta Egbert on Aug. 28, 1948, and she preceded him in death in 1978. He married Wavalene Bradford on May 23, 1980, and she survives at the residence.

John Henry Jackson, 83

September 11, 2014

John Henry Jackson, 83, of Wapakoneta, went to be with the Lord at 8:21 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014, at his residence. He was born on March 29, 1931, in Pineville, Ky., to Gillis and Roseiena (Simpson) Jackson, who preceded him in death. He married Myrtle Brock, who survives in Wapakoneta, with whom they have four children. He then married Anna B. Martin, who passed away in 1997.

Marjorie A. Settlemire, 92

September 11, 2014

Marjorie A. Settlemire, 92, of Wapakoneta, passed away at 4:27 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9, 2014, at the Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys. She was born Jan. 18, 1922, in Randolph County, Ind., the daughter of Ora and Goldie (Davis) Alexander, who preceded her in death. When she was a young Hoosier lady, Marjorie met her future husband during World War II. On Feb. 24, 1943, she married William F. Settlemire in Covington, Ky., before he left for the military. He passed away Nov. 10, 2007.

Richard Lee Pollard, 75, of rural New Knoxville, fell asleep peacefully in his home in New Knoxville on Sept. 7, 2014, and is awaiting the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. He was born to James W. Pollard and Malvina (Stuehmeier) Pollard on Aug. 2, 1939. Richard grew up in rural Centralia, Ill., surrounded by family.

Robert P. Koch, 92, of 1210 West High St., Saint Marys, Ohio, died at 11 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in Saint Marys. He was born Jan. 10, 1922, in Wapakoneta, the son of Gus and Ann (Kachelreis) Koch. He married Jeanne Quellhorst on April 26, 1945, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 11, 1958. He then married Lois Bowers, and she preceded him in death.

Agnes V. Schmerge, 60

Agnes V. Schmerge, 60, of St. Marys, passed away peacefully at Heritage Manor in Minster on Sept. 8, 2014, at 6:35 a.m. She was born on March 5, 1954, in St. Marys, to Alvin and Dolores (Otting) Schulze, who preceded her in death. She married Jim Schmerge on May 14, 1977, and he survives at the residence.

Clarence Willard Nance, 83, of Waynesfield, died on Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, at Lima Memorial Hospital. Mr. Nance was born in Lima on Sept. 14, 1930, to Henry and Maggie Mae (McElroy) Nance.

Donald E. “Don” Cole, 80

September 8, 2014

Donald E. “Don” Cole, 80, of Wapakoneta, died at 7:07 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.

He was born on Nov. 25, 1933, in Wapakoneta, to George and Leota (Hawkey) Cole, who preceded him in death. On Sept. 11, 1955, he married Susan Hill, and she survives in Wapakoneta.
