John L. Schlegel, 83

John L. Schlegel, 83, of rural Cridersville, passed away at 6:34 p.m. Wednesday, surrounded by his family. He was born in Lima on January 25, 1930, to the late John Louis and Henrietta (Storck) Schlegel. On June 8, 1952, he married his childhood sweetheart, Shirley Roser, and she survives.

Jack Dean Knoch, 74, formerly of Troy, and residing in South Korea for the past ten years, passed away on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013. Jack was born on May 28, 1939 in Wapakoneta to Roberta (Kennedy) Knoch of Wapakoneta, and the late John “Bus” Knoch. 

Robert "Bob" Shobe, 81

Robert “Bob” Shobe, 81, died at 8:02 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at Kindred Hospital, Lima.

He was born July 8, 1932, in Akron to Robert and Opal (Baird) Shobe. On Nov. 4, 1951, he married Mildred Morris who preceded him in death. On Aug. 9, 1997, he married Joyce Huffer, and she survives in Waynesfield.

Alfred A. Bustetter, 93

November 21, 2013

Alfred A. Bustetter, 93, of Wapakoneta, died at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at The Gardens, of Wapakoneta.  

He was born July 27, 1920, in Auglaize County, the son of Frances (Fischer) and John Bustetter, who preceded him in death.  On June 6, 1945, he married Loretta I. Seitz, and she died Nov. 21, 2011.

Anna J. Byrne (Kelly), 93

November 19, 2013

Anna J. Byrne (Kelly), 93, of Carlisle, formerly of Wapakoneta, passed away peacefully Sunday Nov. 17, 2013, surrounded by her children. She was born in Glenwood, the daughter of Cornelius and Sylvia (Sherman) Kelly.
Anna was the youngest of 12 children and was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Winfred; a daughter, Kay Forner; and all her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her two sons, Patrick (Dianne) and Dana (Rita) Byrne; one daughter, Darla Wharton and Jan (Scott) Clarry; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She also leaves a son-in-law, Jerome Forner.

David J. Schmerge, 48

David J. Schmerge, 48, of Wapakoneta, died at 8:49 a.m., Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. He was born Jan. 13, 1965, in Lima, the son of Lawrence J. and Madeline (Klausing) Schmerge, who preceded him in death. He was married to Karen Fulton Schmerge, and she preceded him in death.
Survivors include, one brother, Thomas (Paula) Schmerge, of Wapakoneta; two nephews, David A. (MacKenzie) Schmerge, of Bellevue, and Nathan L. Schmerge, Yuma, Ariz; two nieces, Amanda J. Schmerge and Ashley M. Schmerge, both of Wapakoneta; a special cousin, Jane Williams.

Jeannette E. Sallz Hughes, 93

Jeannette E. Sallz Hughes, 93, of Wapakoneta, died at 5:45 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at Auglaize Acres. She was born March 8, 1920, in Waynesfield, the daughter of Weaver Kelso and Maria (Lusk) Sallaz, who preceded her in death. On July 14, 1946, she married Kenneth M. Hughes, and he died Aug. 14, 1989.

Richard A. Gossett, 82

Richard A. Gossett, 82, Chief Master Sgt., U.S. Air Force, retired, passed away on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2013.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Lauretta Gossett.
Surviving is his loving wife and best friend of 30 years, Reecie Gossett.

Eva Annalee Cowger, 86

Eva Annalee Cowger, 86,  died at 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013.
She was born Feb. 1, 1927, in Keysor, W. Va. to Ray and Jessie (Osburn) Stump.
On Nov. 24, 1946, in Hacker Valley, W. Va., she married Evin Hubert Cowger, who died June 2, 2004.
They moved to Ohio a few years later and built their home on CR 33A  Wapakoneta. In 2003 she moved to St. Marys where she lived on Royal Oak Drive. Several years later, due to failing health, she relocated to Quaker Heights Care Community Waynesville, Ohio.

Margaret V. Aufderhaar, 92

Margaret V. Aufderhaar, 92, formerly of 320 Market Street, St. Marys, died at 9:20 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community.
She was born Sept. 28, 1921, near New Knoxville, the daughter of Cornelius and Alma (Vordermark) Henkener.
She married Walter Aufderhaar on Feb. 2, 1947, and he preceded her in death on July 13, 2003.
