October 21st
Richard L. “Rick” Thomes, 55, 15404 Wapak – Fisher Road, Wapakoneta, died Friday, Oct. 14, 2011 at his residence.
He was born September 14, 1956, in St. Marys, the son of Jane L. (Schmehl) and John Robert Thomes. His mother survives.
Also surviving is a son, Troy M. Thomes of Celina.
Services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home in St. Marys. Military Rites will be provided by VFW Post 9289 and American Legion Post 323 funeral detail. Private family burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.
Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
George F. Walti, 80 of Lima, died at 1:59 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, 2011, at Lima Memorial Health Systems.
He was born Dec. 17, 1930, in Lima, the son of Ida (Shroyer) and Carl Walti. On Nov, 26, 1980, he married Charlene Kay Hollar, who survives in Lima. He was formerly married to Wanda Mosley and Della Musser.
Also surviving are a son, Carl Walti, of Cridersville; and two daughters, Debra Harp, of Alger, and Ida Kessler, of St. Marys.
No public services or visiting hours are planned.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society or Allen County Fair.
Dorothy L. (Heckman) Duffman, 50, of Lima, died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 16, 1961, the daughter of Shirley I. (Hamby) and James J. Hamby. On Dec. 29, 1988, she married Donald R. Duffman, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Donnie J.R. Duffman, of Lima; and three daughters, Jamie L. Lacey, of New Knoxville, Ashley N. Williams, of Lima, and Twila S. Mills, of Lima.
Services are at 7 p.m. Thursday at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Shawnee Chapel in Lima, with the Rev. David McGregor officiating.

Rick Thomes, 55, of Wapakoneta, OH was found dead Monday Oct. 17, 2011 at his residence.
An autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of his death.
Arrangements are being completed with the Miller Funeral Homes in St. Marys.
Eva Marie Briggs, 92, of Wapakoneta, died at 2:42 p.m., Sunday Oct. 16, 2011, at Wapakoneta Manor.
She was born July 8, 1919, in Sidney, the daughter of Eva Marie (Fogt) and Charles Evans Hughes. She was raised by Ida Mabel (Knittle) and Henry Edwin Wise of Islandview, Lakeview. On Nov. 9, 1940, she married Clinton Franklin Briggs, and he died May 18, 1981.

Eva M. Briggs, 92, of Wapakoneta, died at 2:42 p..m. Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at Wapakoneta Manor.

Fred G. Swartz, 77, 11103 Ohio 364, St. Marys, died 12:35 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at his residence.
He was born April 5, 1934,, in St. Marys, the son of Cynthia (Davis) and Sam Swartz. On Nov. 24, 1954, he married Janet Quellhorst and she survives at the residence.
He is survived by two sons, Gary Swartz, of St. Marys and Sam Swartz , of Dublin.
Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Miller Funeral Home in St. Marys, with the Rev. Dr. Ed Bray, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.
Roy A. McMurray, 96, of St. Marys, died at 2 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at his home.
He was born Feb. 4, 1915, in Celina, to Imogene (Eshelman) and Arthur McMurray. On Sept. 3, 1980, he married Norma Jean Horn Turner, who survives.
Services are at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Cisco Funeral Home in St. Marys, with the Rev. Harold Liess officiating. Burial with graveside services conducted by the St. Marys American Legion Post 323 and Disabled American Veterans will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Robert Lee Haller, 86, a resident of Wyngate Retirement Community in Lima and formerly a resident of Otterbein-St. Marys, died at 2:48 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at Lima Memorial Health Systems following an extended illness.
He was born Jan. 9, 1925, in Kossuth, the son of Hazel Chesta Gross and Albert Theodore Haller. On June 1, 1946, he married Grace Irene Boyer, who survives.
Mary E. “Nana” Van Etten, 89, of Van Wert, died at 7:55 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice.
She was born Jan. 23, 1922, in Wapakoneta, the daughter of Blanche M. (Bryan) and Adrian M. Meier. She married Thomas D. Van Etten Jr., who preceded her in death.
