Village reimbursed for storm

CRIDERSVILLE — Cridersville Village Council took time to approve resolutions during its August council meeting held Monday night.

Looking back to the storm, deemed by the state a microburst, that hit last summer the village was pleasantly surprised when a reimbursement check was received from the state of Ohio for the costs of damages to the village and emergency assistance from the fire department.

As explained by Candy Stevely, village clerk-treasurer, Resolution 2244 deals with the appropriations of funds received from the state.

W-G board hires 30 as two resign

WAYNESFIELD — The Waynesfield-Goshen Board of Education approved the employment of more than 30 classified substitutes and accepted the resignation of two staff members at a regular board meeting Monday night.

Bus driver Larry Beers will resign effective Jan. 1, 2015, due to his retirement. Upon accepting his resignation, the board offered a statement regarding Beers’ service to the district.

Man arrested at wedding for disorderly conduct

A man was arrested for disorderly conduct at a wedding reception at 9:20 p.m. Aug. 8, at SoSerene, 16000 block of Boundry Road, Wapakoneta.

The Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office was alerted by the facility’s management of an altercation between guests. Arrested was Edward Crist, of Cridersville. Crist is suspected of using alcohol.

A man was injured in a 4-wheeler accident at 4:02 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10, at Pusheta Creek MX, 10000 block of Winemiller Road, Wapakoneta.

Botkins goes back to school

BOTKINS — As Botkins Local School students gather their bookbags and sharpen their pencils, they are preparing for the very last, first day of school in their current facility.

“It’s going to be a tough move,” Superintendent Connie Schneider said. “Kids’ parents went to school here. It’s right in the center of town. We’re going to try to recognize the importance of this building even though it’s going to be gone.”

Readers, dancers relax

This weekend was the weekend of the pool party.

As a way to celebrate, come together and have fun the Auglaize County Public District Library held its end of the summer reading program pool party Saturday evening at the Wapakoneta WaterPark and the Dance Centre held its party Sunday at the Botkins Memorial Pool, after the original pool party date was rained out.

Kristine Spyker, ACPDL youth services coordinator said the summer reading program drew more than 1,900 kids from across the county this year.

Church celebrates 175th anniversary

The Uniopolis United Methodist Church will celebrate its 175th anniversary Sunday, Sept. 14 with a special service commemorating the milestone.

The service will begin at 9 a.m. at the church, located seven miles east of Wapakoneta at 145 state Route 65 in Uniopolis. Following the special service will be a fellowship gathering for members of the church where food and drinks will be served.

After the fellowship there will be a performance by Soul’d Out Quartet at 1:30 p.m.

Preston takes helm as administrator

The opportunity to work and live full time in the town she grew up in was the driving force behind newly appointed Auglaize County Administrator Erica Preston’s decision to accept the position, the 32 year old said Friday in an interview with the Wapakoneta Daily News.

Preston, who moved back to Wapakoneta in October after seven years of living in Dublin, Ohio, had been commuting from home to her job at a law firm in downtown Columbus for nearly nine months before accepting the position in early July.

Pickup, hay trailer catch fire

A truck and trailer full of hay caught fire about 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 8, at a farm located at the 23000 block of Buckland Holden Road in Wayne Township. No injuries were reported.

“I was the second [fire] truck in, and the pick up truck and all the hay on the trailer was well involved when I got here,” Uniopolis Fire Department Assistant Chief Michael Wenning said.
