Continuance sought in Wycuff case

The defense attorneys for a Wapakoneta man charged, along with his ex-wife, in a sex abuse case has asked for a continuance of the trial, currently set for Feb. 9.

Eric J. Allen, attorney for Charles C. Wycuff, has entered a motion to continue the Feb. 9 trial date of his client.

The request was made due to lead defense council, John Poppe, having several other matters set that day in the Auglaize County Common Pleas Court.

Warrant issued for man who failed to show for sentencing

A bench warrant was issued for a Spencerville man who failed to attend his sentencing hearing on Friday. Steven Dwayne Simpkins, 52 of 21569 Valine Road, Spencerville, was scheduled to appear in the Common Pleas Courtroom for a sentencing hearing after negotiating a plea deal during a pretrial hearing on Oct. 28. He was charged with possession of cocaine, a felony of the fifth-degree, carrying a concealed weapon, a first-degree misdemeanor charge, and drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree felony charge.

Ohio State is national champion

Ohio State is national champion after defeating Oregon last night in the first college football playoff finals. The final score was Ohio State 42, Oregon 20.

Orchestra celebrates St. Joe

The Lima Symphony Orchestra will be performing in Wapakoneta on Sunday, Jan. 18, at 4 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

The performance is called Mozart by Candlelight and will have numerous scores played by members of the Symphony.

Pipe fix in the works

County officials are discussing plans to repair the failing cast iron sewer pipe throughout the Auglaize County Law Enforcement Center in 2015, with construction likely beginning in the spring.

In 2014, about 20 percent of the building’s cast iron pipe was replaced with PVC pipe as part of an emergency repair. 

Three in metal theft case await sentencing

A  man has changed his plea in a breaking and entering case that involved three men stealing scrap metal from Murotech in St. Marys on Oct. 29. In addition, two Wapakoneta men await sentencing in the same case.
