Thunderstorms and rain showers may have dampened business Saturday morning at the street sales held during the Summer Moon Festival, but as the skies cleared the afternoon attendance definitely picked up.

Lunar rovers

A passion for cars and talking to people about them is what their owners say brought them out to display their customized, restored and historical vehicles along the streets of downtown Wapakoneta on Friday night.
Chris Sorensen, who restores vehicles, brought a Thunderbird he bought just a month ago to the Aug-Mer Shrine Club Car-Truck-Bike Show. He also brought a Mustang he has been showing for five years.

Six miles of county roads to be repaved

A little more than 6 miles of county roadways are to be repaved this year.
Another approximate 5 miles of township roads also are to be repaved as part of the county and townships’ annual paving program approved by Auglaize County commissioners this week.

Bid provide savings

The cost of resurfacing 8 1/2 miles of County Road 33A comes at a savings of more than $370,660.
A bid of more than $1.6 million for the project was submitted to the Auglaize County commissioners this week. Auglaize County Engineer Doug Reinhart had estimated that the cost would be closer to $2 million.

Dixon set to perform

Former American Idol competitor Colton Dixon will highlight this year’s Family, Faith and Friends Concert scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday in Harmon Park.
The event is being hosted by the Wapakoneta Area Ministerial Association. Nan Stiger, one of many people helping with the organization of the event, said they expect a big crowd.
“Last year we had about 3,500,” Stiger said. “We are hoping for that and many more this year.”

‘Bedder’ team wins

The water-soaked contestants in the Bed Races for charity event felt the best of anyone Thursday. Not only did they manage to stay cool in the scorching 90 degree heat, but they also raised money for local charities by participating.

Soldier’s dream defending country

The world has a way of twisting together the fates of people and sometimes those twists and turns can turn cruel, and even unbearable, especially to friends and family that lose a loved one.
Their paths crossed with 25-year-old Sonny Zimmerman, a 2005 graduate of Waynesfield-Goshen High School, who died Tuesday while serving in the U.S. Army over seas.
Shortly before noon Wednesday, U.S. Department of Defense officials announced Zimmerman died Tuesday, July 16, in Mushaka, Afghanistan, of wounds he suffered when his vehicle was attacked by a rocket propelled grenade.

County plans for fuel upgrade

Auglaize County officials are determining how they can recoup costs to fund upgrading a fuel complex used by multiple offices and agencies.
