Lightning tops LEPC discussion

At the bi-monthly meeting of the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) Wednesday morning, the topic of recent lightning storms was discussed.

Director of Auglaize County’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Troy Anderson, said some of the recent events were quite entertaining, providing decent light shows, and damages seem to be minimal.

Driver found in creek

A driver was was found injured and partially under her vehicle in a creek following an accident at the intersection of National Road and Mudsock Road at 8:52 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, in Cridersville.

Driver Donna Lotz, 84, of Wapakoneta, was traveling northbound on Mudsock Road in a red 2004 Honda Accord when she failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck by a 1995 Mack dump truck traveling west on National Road.

The Honda overturned and came to rest in a creek. Lotz was ejected from her vehicle, which came to rest partially on top of her.

Urgent Care offers quick care

The newly opened urgent care center in Wapakoneta says patients can expect “quick, quality care” for common illnesses, preventative services and physicals, seven days a week.

Walk In Urgent Care & Job Care Services, located at 1321 Bellefontaine St., Wapakoneta, Suite 100, opened its doors to the community in April. Walk In Urgent Care has 10 locations in Ohio. The facility is privately owned by Mazhar Hussain, M.D.

Woman injured in Cridersville crash

July 2, 2014

A driver was injured following an accident at the intersection of National Road and Mudsock Road in Cridersville at approximately 8:45 a.m. today.

According to Ohio State Highway Patrol officials, a passenger vehicle traveling northbound on Mudsock Road struck a dump truck traveling west on National Road.

The driver of the passenger vehicle was found partially under her car. Both drivers were transported to St. Rita's Medical Center.

Spent explosive found in recycling

July 1, 2014

A used explosive device was discovered at the Auglaize County Recycling & Solid Waste facility at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 27, on St. Marys River Road, St. Marys.

According to the report, an employee called the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office to report the device found in a cardboard box, which was taken outside of the building.

The responding deputy was taken to the location of the device, which was identified as a “spent” CTS (Combined Tactical Systems) Flash-Bang.

Taking it to an extreme

A 16-year-old Wapakoneta resident who has a passion for the pogo stick will be taking his talents to Pittsburgh today to compete in the U.S. leg of the 2014 Xpogo World Championship Series, also know as Pogopalooza.

Michael Brookhart packed up his pogo sticks early this morning and headed east with his brother, Anthony, to the competition that will run from July 2-4.

The event is part of an international three-stop tour that also includes France and Sweden, and will feature some of the best jumpers in the world competing in various pogo stick competitions.

Rotary honors Jim West

The Rotary Club of Wapakoneta invited Home Savings Bank President, Jim West, to speak at their final meeting of the rotary year yesterday.

After eating lunch at the Rotary Club Gazebo located in Harmon Park, West expected to give a speech to rotary members about his business and how it came to be what it is today.

Unbeknownst to him, West was in attendance for another reason.

Missing Wapakoneta juvenile found

Wapakoneta Police officers report that a 13-year-old girl who was reported missing from her Wapakoneta home at 5:43 a.m. on Friday, June 27, has been found.

Jessica Schlegel, 13, of 417 South Pine St., was reported missing by her father, David Schlegel, of the residence.

According to police, an unknown caller phoned and said Jessica was walking in front of the city administration building, 701 Parlette Ct., at 8:02 p.m. on Monday, June 30.

Update: Wapakoneta juvenile reported missing

A 13-year-old girl was reported missing from her Wapakoneta home at 5:43 a.m. on Friday, June 27.

According to the Wapakoneta Police Department report, Jessica Schlegel, 13, of 417 South Pine St., was reported missing by her father, David Schlegel, of the residence.

She was last seen at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 26.

Jessica was entered into a nationwide missing person's database as a missing juvenile.

Numerous locations have been checked, including her mother's residence in Lima.

Mobile meth lab discovered on I-75

A mobile methamphetamine lab was found after Ohio State Highway Patrol officials pulled over a vehicle on northbound I-75 near milepost 117 at 8:58 p.m. Saturday, south of Cridersville.

Sergeant John Westerfield, with the Ohio State Highway Patrol Wapakoneta Post, said two individuals, ages 25 and 26, both of New Bremen, were in the 2000 Chrysler Sebring, which was pulled over for a speed violation.

The vehicle contained drugs, drug paraphernalia, a semi-automatic handgun and a semi-automatic assault rifle, which were not loaded.
