Committee mulls budget

The Wapakoneta City Council’s Parks and Recreation Committee met Wednesday to discuss the parks budget for the coming year.

Chairman and First-Ward Councilman James Neumeier presented history of the park budget since 2005 so committee members could see how funding has dwindled.

Christmas in Cridersville

CRIDERSVILLE — The city of Wapakoneta had its Children’s Hometown Holiday, now it’s time for the Village of Cridersville to have its own Christmas festivities for the 2014 season as the village hosts its annual “Christmas on Main Street,” Saturday, Dec. 13, starting at 9 a.m.

Health board touts benefits of flu shots

Seeing that it is National Influenza Vaccination Week, the importance of receiving a flu vaccination was discussed during the Auglaize County Health Department’s Board of Health meeting Tuesday morning.

“Typically, we see vaccination rates decrease after Thanksgiving,” Cindy Jones, director of nursing, said. “I know we’re all anxious to get the vaccine before we gather with family and friends for Thanksgiving.”

Christmas open house at Otterbein

CRIDERSVILLE — Otterbein Senior Lifestyle Choices is hosting its first annual Patio Home Open House on Friday, Dec. 12.

Suzanne Hollenbacher, director of marketing for Otterbein, said the open house is to show off the updated improvements to the public.

Consolidation, pre-trials set in rape case

The case against an ex-couple charged with a multitude of sex crimes has been joined into one case in Franklin County Court of Common Pleas in Columbus.

The consolidation order was issued Monday and signed by Judge Richard S. Sheward, who is presiding over the case since it was moved from Auglaize County.

Concert spreads holiday joy

The Wapakoneta Performing Arts Center was filled with the sounds of holiday music, both new and old, during Monday night’s Winter Choral Concert.

Kicking off the middle school program at 6:30 p.m. was a vocal duet. Shannon Carnes and Kassidi Mitchell performed Taylor Swift’s “Last Christmas.”

Board mulls calendar

WAYNESFIELD — The 2015-16 school calendar was the main topic of discussion at a regular Waynesfield-Goshen Board of Education meeting Monday night.

W-G Superintendent Chris Pfister presented two separate calendars to the board, although they were nearly identical. The only differences between the two are the amount of days the school will be off for spring break, and when the last day of school will be.

Voyeurism case headed to court

Bernard Carver, 65, of Wapakoneta, currently being held at the Auglaize County Jail, faces four charges of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material or performance as a second-degree felony, four charges of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material or performance as a fifth-degree felony, four charges of voyeurism as a fifth-degree felony and three charges of voyeurism as a second-degree misdemeanor.

Santa arrives to take requests

Children of all ages lined Main Street Saturday for a chance to meet Santa Claus and receive a present during the Eighth Annual Children’s Hometown Holiday.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Santa sat in his outpost, letting children sit on his lap and tell him what they want for Christmas. As they left the outpost, each child was given a stocking, candy cane and one gift that ranged from action figures to board games and puzzles.

Woman exits moving vehicle

A Wapakoneta woman suffered non-life threatening injuries after she exited a moving vehicle Saturday evening on U.S. 33 near Bay Road, west of Wapakoneta.

Erin Seggerson was driving with her husband, John Seggerson, also of Wapakoneta, at 7:22 p.m. when she jumped from the passenger side door of the vehicle.
