Cookie sale: more than what’s inside the box

Created as a movement-wide effort to raise awareness of the skills girls learn through the Girl Scout Cookie Program, National Girl Scout Cookie Day will be celebrated this Friday and Saturday.

Communications Manager of the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio, Shonna King said this will be the second year the event is taking place and will hopefully boost sales nationwide.

“The event was such a success that it was decided to extend the celebration, which is why we have National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend,” King said.

Eagle scout pours and plants

On Feb. 2, Wapakoneta High School sophomore Travis Fisher received an award that will stay with him for the rest of his life — the rank of Eagle Scout.

Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable for members of the Boy Scouts of America, and only 2 percent of scouts achieve this distinction.

Levies dominate May election

ST. MARYS —  Voters in several school districts will see levies on the May primary ballot.

In St. Marys, voters within the school district are slated to vote on five-year, 6.8 mill renewal levy. Voters in New Bremen will vote on a renewal of a 1 percent income tax for operating expenses. County residents who live in the Botkins School District will vote on a renewal of a five-year, 2 mill permanent improvement levy, and those who live within the Indian Lake School District will vote on a five-year, 7.2 mill renewal and increase levy.
