Fun and sharing in the kitchen

After all of the food had been tasted, the awards had been handed out and everyone was cleaning up to leave the Kids in the Kitchen cooking contest, Garrett Etzkorn, 12, helped show what the event was all about.

Although Etzkorn did not win, he marched over to the overall winner, Robbie Lynch, 8, and shook his hand to congratulate him and have a chat.

According to Karie Maurer-Enneking, Youth Services Coordinator at the Auglaize County Public Library, she wants to offer opportunities for kids to come together and share cooking tips with each other.

Sertoma plans chili event

The Wapakoneta Sertoma Club gave the honorary first ticket to its upcoming chili day to Mayor Rodney Metz on Tuesday afternoon.

Sertoma, which stands for “SERvice TO MAnkind,” is a local organization that serves members of the community.

The 39th annual chili day will be held  from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, at the Wapakoneta Knights of Columbus Hall.

Detective awarded for integrity, service

A local official has been recognized for his achievements through his work and willingness to help the Wapakoneta Police Department make strides throughout 2013.

Wapakoneta Police Department Detective Patrick Green, 28, was presented with the “Police Officer of the Year” award on Tuesday by the Alvin W. Metzger VFW #8445.
