Botkins, W-G card As on state report card

Two local school districts were among only 27 schools in the entire state to score an “A” on the performance index according to the new school district report cards released on Thursday.
The Minster Local School and Botkins Local School districts were among the 27 schools to receive the highest grade in the category.

Challenge to report

Still digesting the recently released state grade card and what the new letter grades mean, Wapakoneta Superintendent Keith Horner says district administrators and teachers “will accept this as a challenge to get better and to improve.”
“Basically, we are playing by a new set of rules for accountability and we have to figure out how to play by those new rules,” Horner told the Wapakoneta Daily News. “This is a first shot at looking and seeing what it will look like. There are some things here, quite honestly, that I don’t understand how they computed it.

Heather's Hope

After a breakfast of chocolate chip Eggos, a touch of make-up and a quick style to her long wavy ebony hair, 17-year-old Heather Lynch was out the door, ready to begin her senior year.
Heather hasn’t attended a “normal” year of school without surgeries, long absences or hospitalizations since she was in the seventh grade. She was looking forward to the normalness of it all again as she walked through the doors to Wapakoneta High School on Friday.

Making a difference

A young cheerleader in Wapakoneta was so moved by the anti-bullying message of another young cheerleader in Texas that she wanted to spread it throughout her hometown.
Dressed in her cheerleading uniform, Cheyenne (Chey) Phillips has taken that message to businesses and offices throughout the city, along with a poster board that people wherever she goes may sign to offer their support.
