Change being made to food safety

May 16, 2013

A few changes are being made to address food safety after a state survey noted areas which could be improved.

Auglaize County Environmental Health Director Curt Anderson said the Ohio Department of Health Food Survey, conducted every three years, required three standards of the 41 items reviewed to be addressed.

Senate to act on water bill

May 15, 2013

Legislation providing grants for dam inspections and safety plans would likely not provide money for the low-head dam in Wapakoneta, but two dams in St. Marys may qualify.    

Democratic U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown explained Tuesday in a media teleconference the reasons he supports the Water Resources Development Act that the U.S. senators will vote on this week.

County medical director renewed

Dr. Juan Torres agreed to serve another year as the medical director for Auglaize County.

Torres, who has been paid $660 per month since he was hired in May 2008, had his contract unanimously approved Tuesday by Auglaize County Health Board members.His annual salary is less than $8,000.

Village working out contract

CRIDERSVILLE — Village officials are working out a lease with a contracting company to allow them to use their land during an upcoming project.

With an upgrade of power poles stretching from Wapakoneta to Shawnee Road, contractors have pitched the idea of having a storage site on location at Delong Pioneer Park in Cridersville to village officials, and Cridersville Village Council members agreed last month and are working out the details in a written contract.

Wapak Schools construct bus addition

Cemetery rules reminded

In an effort to step up communication with family members that have died, Greenlawn Cemetery Superintendent Jack Hagerman is reminding people of cemetery rules regarding site decorations and he points out one in particular for people to be aware of as Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day approach.

Heartbreak to helmets: Bicycle Safety Day’s goal to protect cyclists

Thirty years have passed since Keith Froning’s baseball team last assembled — ever since a bicycle accident took Keith’s life.

Keith’s mother, Marlene Froning, took the opportunity this weekend to surprise the team and bring them together again.

Team members and coaches were given specially designed t-shirts with a drawn rendition of Keith’s baseball picture from 1983 on the back as they all came together Saturday for the first time in 30 years during the fifth annual Bicycle Safety Day at the Auglaize County Fairgrounds.
