There was a line of children as long as the street to see the crowd favorite at Saturdayâs Childrenâs Hometown Holiday in downtown Wapakoneta. Santa Claus and his helpers from the Octagon Club sat outside the courthouse on Willipie Street, waiting to hear every boy and girlâs wish for Christmas. There were elaborate requests with many toys and simpler ones for just the childrenâs favorite treat.
Brooklyn Snyder, 8, and her older sister Morgan, 10, each wanted the exact same thing.
âI want a Monster High Doll,â Brooklyn said. âI want it to play with.â
Behind nearly every door downtown on Saturday was a free treat or goodie for children as part of the Childrenâs Hometown Holiday. From popcorn and hot chocolate, to hot dogs and candy, downtown Wapakonetaâs generosity came out in full force this weekend.
There were smiling faces everywhere Saturday, and not just from the children.
âItâs really great that they have all of this down here,â said Heidi Snyder, who brought her two daughters to the event downtown. âItâs great that everything is free and there is so much to do.â
