Theater inspires WHS students

December 6, 2013

“Fall, Macbeth,” WHS senior Wyatt Harrison said as he drew his sword on the final scene of the Shakespearean play, Macbeth. Harrison was performing the part of antagonist Lord Macduff during the Wapakoneta High School’s Shakespearean acting classes last week.
Great Lakes Theater Festival Actors Chennelle Bryant-Harris and Michael Silverstein visited the high school every day of the week, introducing many students to the world of theater.
All Wapakoneta senior English classes got involved with acting week, acting out scenes from Macbeth.

Ice rink brings smiles

WAPAKONETA - Throughout the day Friday, those involved with the Children’s Hometown Holiday helped to construct the opening highlight of the event, the ice skating rink. Children were able to enjoy an evening on the rink Friday with the fun continuing today until 3 p.m.
Elaine Poppe, chair of Children’s Hometown Holiday, said that there used to be ice skating in and near Wapakoneta, but due to unsafe ice it hasn’t been possible in recent years.

Resident wins award for masonry work

Wapakoneta resident Mike Barbee has been doing construction his whole life. In high school he made money by working on patios and landscape and helping his dad work around the house. Barbee, who grew up in southeastern Ohio, said he has been using tools his whole life.
“We were one of those families that never hired anyone to fix things around the house,” he said. “We did it ourselves.”

Favorable ice fishing conditions coming

With any luck from Mother Nature, the waters on Indian Lake will soon be solid enough for ice fishers to go have their fun.
