November 29, 2013

An accident involving two vehicles occurred on the state Route 67 construction site around 3:20 p.m. on Friday.
Two minor injuries were reported, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol is still investigating damages.
One of the drivers was driving West bound on state Route 67 and turned, failing to yield to another driver traveling East bound.
Trooper Tim Wenger said both drivers were conscious when taken to the hospital, and no major injuries are expected.
The Wapakoneta Fire and EMS responded to the crash.

Locals line up for deals

ST. MARYS — By 10 a.m. Friday, retailers in St. Marys were seeing the second wave of shoppers, a mix of people finishing up their early morning forays for deals along with the more casual shoppers who didn’t consider themselves Black Friday shoppers so much as people who hadn’t woken up early or stood in lines.
Those who’d been out the night before, however, said it was “chaos.”
Eric Goodwin browsed Sears Friday morning, saying it was the first year he’d had off Black Friday, and had decided to brave crowds the night before and in the morning out of curiosity. He had yet to buy anything.

The Auglaize County Board of Elections held official recounts from the Nov. 5 general election for both the Botkins School District Board of Education and the Duchouquet Township Trustees.
Recounts were required because the vote totals were too close, making it an “automatic recount.”
“They have to be separated by more than a half of one percent,” Auglaize County Board of Elections Director Michelle Wilcox said. “They were that close.”

Rotary spreads Christmas Cheer

November 29, 2013

The Wapakoneta Rotary Club made a $500 donation to the Wapakoneta Christmas Cheer program; Fire Chief Kendall Krites attended Monday’s meeting to accept the donation.
For the past couple of weeks, the club has “passed the hat” at meetings, explained club President Josh Little, and the club’s board of directors agreed to match whatever was collected during the effort. After the final collection, club members had thrown $248 into the hat.
“It seemed natural to bump that up to $250 and donate the $500,” Little said.
