Courthouse noise — Resident pleads for commissioners to alleviate sound

The noise from the ventilation system of the renovated Auglaize County Courthouse is already causing concerns for an area resident.
Patricia Werst, who resides at 206 Willipie St. with her elderly father, said the sawing and the cement dust are both parts of the work she can deal with because they will end. The constant hum of the ventilation system, which reverberates through all three levels of her house is not and no end appears to be in sight.

Wheat crop strong

Preliminary reports show that Auglaize County farmers can expect a good wheat harvest, both in quantity and quality standards, despite a recent dry spell coupled with high temperatures.
Some farmers have already began to harvest their winter wheat, and Ohio State University Extension Office Agriculture Educator John Smith said he expects most of the wheat to be harvested by next week.
“It looks like about 99 percent will be off the field by the first of next week,” Smith said of the crop typically harvested the first two weeks of July.

Local wins card design contest

A retired English teacher designed a greeting card — which is now for sale at Hallmark Stores throug-hout the country.
Sue Moser, of Wa-pakoneta, decided to enter into the Hallmark Card Contest last year when she was shopping at a Hallmark store in Bellefontaine and saw that the store was hosting a card designing contest.
“I knew I had a good picture to use,” Moser said, “but it took me a little while to figure out the caption.”

Portman pushes new bills

Despite this being an election year when most members of Congress and the president concentrate on the campaign trail, one U.S. senator from Ohio plans to continue to focus on getting passed legislation to help the American economy.
Pushing for a number of pieces of legislation he sponsored or co-sponsored, Republican U.S. Sen. Rob Portman says he believes Congress can pass these bills to jump start the American economy.

Voters urged to update information

Auglaize County election officials are urging citizens to register to vote or update their existing voter information as soon as possible.

“This year is a unique year for elections in Ohio,” Auglaize County Elections Board Director Carolyn Campbell. “Each registered voter in the state will be receiving an application to vote by mail. However, in order to receive the application, our Board of Elections must have a voter’s current registration information.”
