A night to remember

Wapakoneta High School junior Alex Koch was especially excited for the event, because he had the opportunity to take his father’s 1987 Oldsmobile 442 out to pick up his date Annie Henderson, a Wapakoneta High School junior.

This vehicle was special because it was the same transportation that his father drove to pick up his date for their prom when they were in high school and his wife when they got married.

Coming back to give back

During the summer of 2011, a 2009 Wapakoneta High School graduate came back to her hometown to give back.

Georgetown College (Kentucky) student Devon Golden, a member of the Georgetown Tigers women’s basketball team, helped recruit blood donors for an American Red Cross blood drive for two youths, Jason Strauser and Jesse Doseck, who died from cancer. Earlier this month, she received the Auglaize County Youth of the Year Award for 2011 from the American Red Cross in Allen, Auglaize and Hardin counties.

Plans in works for softball trip

Plans are in the works for the Wapakoneta High School varsity softball team to travel to Florida in 2013.

Redskins varsity softball coach Bill Sammons presented plans for the team to play in a tournament at Cocoa Beach during spring break next year to Wapakoneta City Schools Board of Education members during a recent board meeting.

He anticipated between 14 and 16 players making the trip, with those going being high school  juniors and seniors or other members of the varsity team.
