A behind the scenes local man recently received recognition for all his hard work and dedication and for demonstrating his love for God and his country.
Tom Moran, of Wapakoneta, was awarded the 2012 Patriotism Award through the 4th degree Knights of Columbus at the club’s annual holiday party this past weekend at the Knights of Columbus hall in Versailles.

The Wapakoneta veterans organizations got together to host the fifth annual Christmas party for local disabled military veterans at the Wapakoneta V.F.W. post Friday.
“It is just a way of honoring veterans with special needs so they know they are not forgotten,” said Wanda Link, president of the Wapakoneta Amvets Ladies Auxiliary.

An anonymous tip led to the arrest Thursday evening of two Wapakoneta men for multiple drug charges following a multi-agency law enforcement investigation.
Kristopher Sandven, 23, and Christopher Brant, 19, 30A W. Auglaize St., were both charged with manufacturing a controlled substance, a second-degree felony, possession of methamphetamines, a fifth-degree felony, and cultivation of marijuana, a third-degree misdemeanor. They were incarcerated at the Auglaize County Jail.
The pair is being held without bond after a hearing Friday before Municipal Judge Gary Herman.

ST. MARYS — On the morning of Dec. 7, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy launched their surprise attack on what has been possibly the most infamous battle in U.S. military history — Pearl Harbor.
The attack, known as Operation Al by the Japanese, was secretly planned by Japanese military leaders while Japanese ambassadors were in active negotiations with U.S. federal officials regarding oil, parts and tools. There was no formal warning.
Five new wells and additional groundwater monitoring test will cause the Auglaize County Solid Waste District’s budget for 2013 to balloon 23 percent.
Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officials ordered the county to drill five new wells at the former St. Marys landfill in 2013 to monitor groundwater possible entering the St. Marys River.
Larger caseloads mean more work for Auglaize County Job and Family Services (JFS) employees going into 2013.
“No one is handing out money and telling us to do good things,” county JFS Director Mike Morrow said of funding to support these increases in work across the board.
“They are telling us to do more good things with less,” he said of state and federal funding for the department.
