Indigent clarification

Working to clarify the city’s definition of indigent prompted the city of Wapakoneta to review its existing policy and to amend its indigent burial ordinance.

In 1995, Ohio legislators made local municipalities financially responsible for handling the burial expenses of indigent persons, but more recently the state clarified a policy must be in place to deal with the remains instead of relying on funeral homes to store them.

Man fires shots

October 16, 2012

A Wapakoneta man was arrested Monday following on early Sunday morning shooting incident in the area of Silver and Defiance streets.

Zachary Gonterman, 22, 102 N. Blackhoof St., Apt. 6, fired shots at a moving pickup truck near the intersection of Silver and Defiance streets. The pickup truck, which included a motorist  and a couple passengers who were all in their mid-20s, was hit by the bullets.
